STORYLINES
- Mizzou Softball will host No. 5 Tennessee this weekend at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
- The Volunteers come in at 4-2 in the SEC, sitting in fifth place, two slots ahead of the Tigers.
- Tennessee holds a narrow 7-6 edge in the all-time series. Mizzou was most recently swept by the Vols in Knoxville, losing all three games early last season (March 9 - 11).
- The Tigers most recently completed a road sweep of No. 13 Kentucky.
- It was the Tigers' first three-game SEC series sweep since 2016, when the Tigers took all three games at Mississippi State.
- The Tigers scored 29 runs over the weekend. It was the first time in the Rachel Lawson era at Kentucky (2008 - Pres.) that the Cats have allowed 8+ runs in three straight games.
ROLLIN IS ROLLIN'
- Freshman SS Jazmyn Rollin has really started to gain some traction in the league, as she was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for her performances against the Cats and Bradley.
- Rollin had a sensational week, going 6-12 at the plate with six runs scored, five RBI, two home runs and two stolen bases.
- Rollin becomes the first Tiger to win the award since Braxton Burnside in 2017.
- Rollin's two homers last week gave her six so far this season, the most by a Mizzou freshman since Burnside had 12 in 2017.
- With home runs in the games against Bradley and Kentucky, Rollin became the first Tiger this season to record a home run in three straight games (vs. Georgia - 3/17, vs. Bradley - 3/20, at Kentucky - 3/22).
WERT ALERT
- Though she was unrecognized by the league office, sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert had arguably as good of a weekend as Rollin.
- She registered two more two-run shots over the weekend, pushing her season total to 10 homers. Wert is one of just 33 players in the NCAA with double-digit home runs this season.
- Wert's nine RBI this weekend gave her 30 for this season, the most on the team.
- Wert was especially good in the finale for the Tigers, racking up four RBI in that game alone. It was one of just four four-RBI performances this season, and the most RBI in a game in her career.
CLUTCH CASSIE
- Sophomore P Cassie Gasper has proven to be the ultimate gamer this season, as the JUCO transfer now has four wins over top-15 teams.
- In those wins, Gasper owns a 2.07 ERA, surrendering just 14 combined hits in her wins against Arizona State, Georgia and Kentucky (x2).
- Gasper was great against the Cats in game one, earning the win after going the final 2.2 innings. She allowed just two hits while shutting the Cats out over the final two innings.
- The sophomore wasn't quite as good in game two, going 5.2 innings and giving up three runs, but her ability to roll out ground balls helped her secure the win.
BAILEY'S BOUNCEBACK
- After an early season slump, redshirt freshman 2B Kendyll Bailey had a big weekend in Lexington.
- Bailey started things off in game one, hitting a clutch two-out double in the top of the fifth to tie the game at eight. It was only her second-career double.
- Bailey followed it up by smashing her second-career home run in game two at John Cropp Stadium. The two-run shot would trim the Kentucky lead to just one.
- In total, Bailey finished the weekend 3-8 at the plate with four RBI, seven total bases and two runs scored. Bailey also drew four walks.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE
- The Tigers' explosive offense will meet the stout defense of Tennessee this weekend, as the Vols have the second best team ERA and the best team fielding percentage in SEC only games in the conference.
- The Tennessee pitching staff has struck out 44 batters in SEC play, good for third most in the conference.
- That staff is led by freshman ace Ashley Rogers, who has been sensational for the Vols this season. She has pitched 88.2 innings, striking out 109 batters while only allowing 20 earned runs.
- Senior Matty Moss has been an excellent No. 2 option, as she has a 1.85 ERA over her 60.2 innings pitched, while notching 78 strikeouts.
- The Tennessee offense is led by senior INF Aubrey Leach, whose 41 hits are 11 more than the next closest Volunteer. She also leads the team in avg., currently sitting at .446.
- Tennessee also has a lot of power in the lineup, as both senior OF Haley Bearden and freshman UT Kaili Phillips have nine home runs each this season.
- The pair has also combined for 49 RBI this season.
