Wood sets the 3000m run school record and meet record
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field closed the Larry Wieczorek Invitational with one school record and three overall program top-10 marks set Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa. Running in his first collegiate track meet in the United State, junior Kieran Wood (Cambridge, U.K.) set a meet record and the school record in the 3000m run, while redshirt freshman Jayson Ashford (Fairview Heights, Ill.) and redshirt senior Will Fife (Jefferson City, Mo.) posted program top-10 marks in the 60m dash and shot put, respectively.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Wood, who earned All-SEC Second Team and NCAA All-Midwest Regional Team honors during the cross country season, placed first in the 3000m run with a time of 8:04.03. Wood's time was a meet record, eclipsed Tim Ross' mark of 8:04.86 as the top time ran in program history, and currently ranks as the second-fastest time ran in the NCAA this season.
A day after moving up from ninth to eighth in the 200m dash on the all-time top-10 list, Ashford joined the top-10 list in the 60m dash. The Tiger freshman recorded a time of 6.85 in a sixth-place finish the premier finals. Sophomore Nylo Clarke (Riverside, Mo.) recorded a fourth-place finish in the Olympic development heat of the 60m dash, as he recorded times of 6.89 in the preliminaries and 6.90 in the finals.
In the shot put, Fife joined the Mizzou top-10 list at No. 10 as he recorded a second-place finish with a toss of 18.25m (59-10.5). Fife has improved his shot put personal record two times in three meets this season, as he entered the season with a mark of 17.71m (58-1.25) before throwing 18.00m (59-0.75) at the Missouri Holiday Opener (Dec. 8).
For the women, senior Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.) each posted third place finishes in their respective events. Cody finished third in the 60m dash at 7.51, while Fisher posted a third-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.47m (40-11).
