Hear From Coach Fogue
On Sunday's series finale loss:
"It was a tough weekend. We had a promising start for much of Friday's series opener, but after some late struggles that night South Carolina really took control the rest of the way. We're entering the final stretch of the season these next two weeks and we still have a lot to play for. We need to re-focus quickly as we have a couple big mid-week doubleheaders coming up that will be pivotal towards our postseason aspirations."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Sanchez got Mizzou on the scoreboard with her solo home run in the fourth inning. It marked her team-leading 10th blast this year, as she has surpassed double-digit home runs in a single-season twice (14 in 2015, 10 in 2018).
- Trenity Edwards tallied an infield base hit in the fifth, securing a hit in all three games this weekend. Overall, the Moore, Oklahoma, native is in midst of a season-high six-game hitting streak.
- Pierce joined Sanchez with trips to #BombCity Sunday with a solo opposite field home run in the sixth inning. The Visalia, California, native has been a model of consistency over her three-year run so far at Mizzou. After producing eight home runs in each of her first two seasons, Pierce is now up to seven in her 2018 junior campaign.
- Sunday marked Mizzou's 11th contest this year with multiple home runs. It stands as only the third-such occurrence in SEC play.
- Rice was fantastic in relief today, bouncing back nicely after a rough start Saturday afternoon. The Tiger right-hander allowed zero runs while limiting the Gamecocks to only one hit.
- Kolby Romaine was the Tigers' most consistent hitter this weekend, tallying an outstanding .556 (5-for-9) average with two multi-hit games. Callie Martin (.375), Edwards (.333), Sanchez (.333) and Pierce (.300) also had productive series' at the plate, as each eclipsed a .300 average.
