Mizzou Squares Off with LSU in SEC Home Opener
- The battle of the Tigers pits two elite defensive teams against one another. Mizzou is in the Top 15 in the nation in field goal percentage defense and LSU is 12th in the nation in scoring defense. Both teams have limited opponents to less than 57 points per game. The last meeting at Mizzou Arena between the two programs was a defensive slugfest as the Tigers in black and gold prevailed, 52-46.
- Mizzou is one of eight teams in the nation that rank in the Top 25 in both field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense (alongside Baylor, Duke, West Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Iowa and Oregon State). The Tigers are 24th in the Division I in field goal percentage, shooting 46.5 percent, and 13th in field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to 33.8 percent shooting.
- The Tigers are riding a 13-game win streak, their longest since securing 13 straight victories from Nov. 13, 2015 to Jan. 29, 2015. This is the second win streak of 13 or more games since Pingeton took over the program. It's just the third win streak of 13 games in program history. A win Thursday would give Mizzou a program-record 14 straight victories.
- With the win over Illinois, Mizzou has now won 52 consecutive nonconference regular season home games, with the last loss coming to Northwestern on Dec. 3, 2011. The Tigers have won 38 consecutive nonconference games at Mizzou Arena, falling to Eastern Illinois in the Postseason WNIT on March 20, 2013. Those are the longest such streaks in program history.
- Mizzou allows the fewest rebounds per game in the SEC, as opponents grab just 30.2 per game. Mizzou ranks second in the nation in that category.
- Mizzou has spent all nine weeks of the season in the Top 25 in the AP poll. The Tigers spent just seven weeks ranked all of last season. Since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign, Mizzou has spent 23 weeks in the Top 25. Mizzou's current No. 15 ranking is the highest in the Pingeton era.
- Mizzou has been ranked for 13 consecutive weeks over two seasons. That is the 14th-longest such streak in the nation.
- Sophomore Jordan Chavis has proven to be a vital member of Mizzou's backcourt this season, averaging 6.8 points and 1.6 assists through the first 14 games. Despite being one of Mizzou's primary ballhandlers, Chavis has committed just 14 turnovers in 294 minutes on the floor. That just one turnover per 21 minutes on the floor. She boasts a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. Chavis is shooting an efficient 39.3 percent form beyond the arc, the second-highest 3-point percentage on the team and the seventh-best in the SEC among those who have taken more than 60 attempts. She made 28 treys last season, but has already has made 24 in only 14 games to begin the 2017-18 campaign. Chavis has made multiple triples in a game 14 times in her career. Mizzou is 12-2 in those games, and 7-0 this season. She scored a season-high 17 points at Alabama, willing the Tigers to a victory with five clutch free throws in the final minute.
Mizzou vs. LSU
- Mizzou is looking for its first win over LSU since Jan. 28, 2016. It would give Mizzou back-to-back home wins over LSU.
- LSU is up in the overall series, 7-3.
- Mizzou has won its SEC home opener just twice since joining the league, including a 63-45 victory over Georgia a season ago..
