COLUMBIA, MO. – After falling just short against No. 18 Arkansas in its Southeastern Conference opener last week, Mizzou (9-3, 0-1) heads back to the Mizzou Tennis Complex to face another set of ranked, conference foes. Mizzou will begin the weekend with a matchup against No. 17 Texas A&M (8-5, 0-2) Friday at 5 p.m. and finish off the weekend with a 10 a.m. match with the No. 29 LSU Tigers (8-3, 1-1). Both matches will be held at the Mizzou Tennis Complex, and are free to watch.
Promos:
- PINK OUT: Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness and research at Friday's match.
- Free coffee before Sunday's match against LSU.
Freshman Phenoms:
- Mizzou brought in one of its highest rated freshman classes to this season, ranked No. 22 by tennisrecruting.net, and it shows. The Tiger freshmen have combined for a 21-5 record this spring including an incredible 14-3 record by Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.)
- Schroeder boasts a team-best 9-1 singles record this spring. She has won four straight singles matches, and six straight overall, heading into this weekend.
- Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) has been phenomenal in her first collegiate season, posting a 7-1 overall record including five wins in singles play. She enters this weekend on a four-match win streak.
- Both Schroeder and Middlebrooks earned singles victories in their first taste of Southeastern Conference play at Arkansas in the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
Senior Leadership:
- The Tiger senior co-captains, Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) have provided excellent examples for their younger teammates with their efforts on the court.
- Santos is coming off of an effort in which she won her fourth consecutive singles match by defeating Arkansas' No. 88 Mia Jurasic in No. 2 singles. It was Santos' first victory over a ranked opponent this season. She had six such wins in last year's campaign.
- Santos leads the team in doubles wins this year with 15, due in large part to her efforts in a pairing with Spearman. The pairing had won seven consecutive doubles matches before falling on the road to Arkansas last week.
- Santos is heating up, winning 11 of her last 12 matches extending back to February 12.
- Spearman saw her 10-match win streak snapped in Arkansas last week. She showed off her work ethic and fight in the Mizzou home opener against Louisiana Tech, coming back to win her singles match 0-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Transferring Success:
- Junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) transferred to Mizzou from Xavier over the summer and brought her success with her. After posting an 88-31 overall record at Xavier, Ismail came to the Tigers and leads the team with 27 overall wins. She enters play this weekend winning 10 of her last 11 matches including seven of her last eight in singles play.
- Ismail has a 7-2 singles record this spring, the second-most singles win on the team behind Schroeder.
Scouting Texas A&M:
- The Aggies are coming into play off of a pair of losses to SEC foes. They fell to No. 19 South Carolina, 4-2, and to No. 1 Florida, 4-0.
- Texas A&M has two singles players ranked in the ITA Top-100 and one doubles pairing in the ITA Top-80. Senior Rachel Pierson is ranked No. 44 with a 7-4 record at No. 1 and senior Rutuja Bhosale comes in ranked No. 85 after posting an 8-3 record at No. 2. Together, Pierson and Bhosale create the No. 19 ranked doubles team in the country, with a 6-4 record.
Scouting LSU:
- LSU comes into play with an 8-3 record, 1-1 in Southeastern Conference play.
- After losing 7-0 to No. 1 Florida, LSU responded with a 4-2 victory over South Carolina.
- LSU has yet to win a road match this season.
- LSU is led by freshman Jade Lewis. Lewis is ranked No. 39 in the country as a freshman and holds a perfect 8-0 record, 7-0 at No. 1, in singles play this spring.
