COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Basketball (7-21, 2-14) returns to Mizzou Arena for its final home game of the 2016-17 season, hosting Texas A&M (15-13, 7-9) for Senior Night (6 p.m. CT). Graduating Tigers include senior forward Russell Woods and junior guard Trevor Glassman.
- Freshman Frankie Hughes (22 points) and junior Jordan Barnett (14 points) nearly pushed Mizzou past Ole Miss for its first road win of the season, but the Rebels outlasted the Tigers by a score of 80-77 on Saturday, Feb. 25, in Oxford, Miss.
- Hughes' 22-point performance was his third game of 20 points or more this season and first since Nov. 17 vs. Xavier.
- Barnett's 46.2 field goal percentage in SEC action ranks eighth-best in the league (80-of-173 FG).
- Sophomore guard Terrence Phillips ranks first in the SEC for assists per game in conference play, averaging 4.8 per contest.
- Head coach Kim Anderson won his 300th career game as Mizzou defeated Vanderbilt, 72-52 (Feb. 11).
- The second-ever #RallyForRhyan Game, an 83-78 win vs. Arkansas (Feb. 4), raised more than $54,000 for pediatric cancer research.
- The entire 2016-17 Mizzou roster is made up of first- or second-year players. Not a single member of the Black & Gold has been with the squad for three seasons. According to KenPom.com, the Tigers rank 327th out of 351 NCAA Division I teams in terms of experience.
OPPONENT - TEXAS A&M
- Texas A&M enters Mizzou Arena with a 7-9 record in Southeastern Conference play and 15-13 overall. Last week, the Aggies fell to Arkansas (86-77) on Feb. 22 before defeating Alabama, 56-53, on Feb. 25.
- Led by head coach Billy Kennedy, Texas A&M went 8-4 in nonconference play before losing five of their first six conference games. Following the tough beginning to SEC play, the Aggies have since gone 6-4 in league play.
- Four Aggies have averaged double figures in scoring, led by sophomore center Tyler Davis at 14.3 points per game. He is also shooting an outstanding 62.7 percent (151-of-241) from the field. Sophomore guard Admon Gilder is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game.
- Freshman forward Robert Williams leads the team in rebounding at 7.9 rebounds per game, while Davis is second on the team with 6.8 boards per game. Davis leads the team in offensive rebounds with 85, while Williams has snagged 82.
- Texas A&M is averaging 71.9 points and 38.5 rebounds per game through 28 contests allowing 68.6 points and 33.1 rebounds per game to it opponents. Foes of the Aggies have shot 40.8 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from the free throw line.
SENIOR NIGHT FOR THE TIGERS
- Mizzou will recognize its senior class before the Tigers take on Texas A&M. Fans are encouraged to arrive to their seats ahead of senior day festivities beginning. Senior forward Russell Woods (Chicago, Ill.)and redshirt junior Trevor Glassman (Bedford, N.H.) will be recognized as Mizzou's graduating student-athletes.
- Both transfers who have worked to make the most of their time as Tigers, Woods and Glassman are both in their second seasons at Mizzou. Woods played two seasons at John A. Logan, a junior college in Carterville, Illinois, before joining the Tigers as a junior last season. Glassman originally walked-on at Manhattan College before transferring to Mizzou before the 2015-16 campaign.
- Woods, a general studies major, has his eyes on hospitality management. Woods' mother, Vivian Winters, will be in attendance. Glassman, a finance major, will be joined by his parents, Stuart and Marianne Glassman.
- Managers Brandon Byer, Danny Frazier, Andrew Kimball and Daulton Speckhart will also be recognized.
HUGHES GETS HOT IN OXFORD
- Mizzou freshman guard Frankie Hughes (Cleveland, Ohio) had not scored in double digits for the Tigers since before conference play started (vs. Arizona, Dec. 10), but that fact did not deter Hughes on the road at Ole Miss (Feb. 25).
- Hughes scored 22 points (6-of-16 FG, 5-of-11 3PT, 5-of-6 FT) for his third game of 20-or-more points this season. His five three-pointers also matched a season-best for the freshman.
NIKKO GROWING INTO ROLE
- With a season-best 23 minutes off the bench at Ole Miss (Feb. 25), freshman forward Reed Nikko (Maple Grove, Minn.) began to show his full capabilities as a post presence for the Tigers. Nikko yanked down a season-high nine rebounds to go along with eight points.
- Nikko's shot-blocking ability has also been on display. The Minnesota native has a swat in four-straight games, including two at Ole Miss (Feb. 25) and vs. Alabama (Feb. 15). His 17 blocks this season rank as the eighth-best total recorded by a Mizzou freshman, all-time.
LAST TIME VS. TEXAS A&M
- Wins on the road have proven elusive for Mizzou in recent seasons, but the Tigers' effort at Texas A&M (Feb. 8) earlier this season cannot be faulted. The Aggies held on for a narrow 76-73 win, despite a career-best 23 points from junior forward Jordan Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.).
- The Tigers trailed Texas A&M by six points at the halftime break, 38-32, and needed a spark to climb back into the game. Barnett scored 12 of his 23 points in the second half to fuel Mizzou, also snagging six boards. Sophomore forward Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs, Mo.) scored all nine of his points after the break, as well.
- A focus on the boards will surely come in the second edition of Mizzou-Texas A&M, as the Aggies outrebounded the Tigers 40-28 in College Station. Defensive pressure can bother Mizzou's opponent, though, as the Tigers forced the Aggies into 14 turnovers.
PHILLIPS DOING THE LITTLE THINGS
- Sophomore guard Terrence Phillips (Orange County, Calif.) is one of just two Southeastern Conference players to average better than 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game during league play.
- Phillips (4.8 APG, 1.7 SPG) is joined by Florida senior guard Kasey Hill (4.6 APG, 2.0 SPG).
FINAL HOME GAME FOR THE TIGERS
- Mizzou Arena has been good for the Tigers in recent Southeastern Conference games, as head coach Kim Anderson's squad picked up wins against Arkansas (83-78, Feb. 4) and against Vanderbilt (72-52, Feb. 11).
- The Tigers dropped close results in front of rowdy home crowds vs. Alabama (57-54, Feb. 15) and vs. No. 11 Kentucky (72-62, Feb. 21).
- Mizzou will aim to channel its form at home from earlier in the month of February when hosting Texas A&M at 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
