Men’s Basketball Announces Three-Game Series with Saint Louis
6/8/2026 1:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The two premier men's basketball programs in the state of Missouri are set to renew their rivalry for the first time in 25 years with Mizzou and Saint Louis announcing a three-game series on Monday, beginning in November.
In a series that dates back to 1931, the Tigers and Billikens have played 40 times previously with Mizzou holding a 21-19 advantage. The schools are reigniting a rivalry that has seen the teams play just three times in the last 45 years and for the first time since 2001.
The first game of the series is set for Friday, November 6 with all three contests in the series slated for Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
"Rivalries are what make college basketball so special and I couldn't be more excited for the basketball fans in the state of Missouri, alumni and current students of both institutions to face off with Saint Louis," said Whitten Family Head Coach Dennis Gates. "Coach Schertz and I recognized that it has been too many years since the last game and we made it a priority from our very first conversation to get this matchup across the finish line. We look forward to Enterprise Center hosting one of college basketball's most anticipated games during the opening week."
"Today's announcement is not just a win for both basketball programs, but for basketball fans across the city of St. Louis and the state of Missouri as well," said Saint Louis head coach Josh Schertz. "We know the incredible history of this matchup, and I am glad that Coach Gates agrees that this is the perfect time in both programs' trajectories to rekindle the series."
ABOUT THE TEAMS
The Tigers have earned back-to-back NCAA Tournament bids for the first time since a run of five-straight invitations from 2009 to 2013. Mizzou has also totaled at least 20 wins in each of the last two campaigns with double-digit SEC victories in consecutive seasons for the first time since joining the league in 2012.
Mizzou is set to welcome the nation's seventh-ranked freshman class and the country's 14th-ranked transfer class to Columbia next season in addition to six returning players from the 2025-26 campaign.
The Billikens return nine players, including three all-conference performers, from last year's squad that posted a school-record 29 wins, shared the Atlantic 10 regular-season title and reached the second round of the NCAA Championship.
