@MizzouHoops Begins Thanksgiving Weekend with Long Beach State in Orlando

Tigers and 49ers tip off at 10:30 a.m. CT, Thursday, on ESPN2
Mizzou Men's Basketball (3-1) heads to Orlando, Florida, for the second-straight season, taking part in the AdvoCare Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Tigers begin the event inside HP Field House with Long Beach State on Thanksgiving Day at 10:30 a.m. CT on ESPN2.
STORY LINES
- Head coach Cuonzo Martin's squad will face either Oregon State or St. John's in the second game of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 24, at either 10:00 a.m. CT (ESPNews) or 12:30 p.m. CT (ESPN3).
- The Tigers defeated Tulane in their last trip to Orlando for the 2016 Tire Pros Invitational, winning 67-62 at HP Field House (Nov. 20, 2016).
- Thursday's broadcast on the Tiger Radio Network will be available on KMOX in the St. Louis area.
- Junior forward Kevin Puryear has seven-straight games of 10+ points dating back to last season.
- Iron Man! Senior transfer guard Kassius Robertson has played at least 20 minutes in 80-straight games dating back to midway through his freshman season (2014-15) at Canisius.
- Sophomore forward Reed Nikko has more than doubled his rebounding average from his freshman campaign (2.3) through the first four games of the season (5.3).
- Freshman forward Jontay Porter ranks second on the team in assists (2.0 per game).
- Nikko and Jontay Porter are tied for the team-lead with five blocks each.
- The Mizzou Men's Basketball program announced on Tuesday, Nov. 21, that freshman forward Michael Porter, Jr. underwent surgery, specifically, a microdiscectomy of the L3-L4 spinal discs. He has a projected recovery time of three-four months.
MIZZOU AT THE ADVOCARE INVITATIONAL
- Mizzou begins the AdvoCare Invitational on Thanksgiving Day with Long Beach State (Thursday, Nov. 23) at 10:30 a.m. CT on ESPN2. The meeting will be the third-ever matchup between the two schools. Mizzou leads the all-time series, 2-0.
- Mizzou will then play either St. John's or Oregon State on Friday, Nov. 24. The Tigers hold a 2-1 advantage all-time against Oregon State, but the two teams have not met since 1984. Mizzou is 0-1 all-time vs. St. John's, dropping a 1972 NIT game in overtime to the Queens, New York-based school.
- The Tigers' third game of the tournament will occur on Sunday, Nov. 26, and will be against UCF, Nebraska, West Virginia or Marist. West Virginia is currently ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25.
- A potential Mizzou-Nebraska matchup would be the first game between the two old Big 12 rivals since 2011, prior to Nebraska departing for the Big Ten. Mizzou leads the all-time series, 126-93.
- The Mizzou-WVU all-time series is tied 1-1. Mizzou defeated the Mountaineers, 80-71, on Dec. 5, 2013, but the win was later vacated. Mizzou defeated Marist, 69-56, on Jan. 30, 1992, in the only meeting between the two schools.
JONTAY HAS THAT DOUBLE VISION
- Freshman forward Jontay Porter has provided productive minutes off the bench for Mizzou through its first four games, as the Columbia native has averaged 8.3 points and 7.0 rebounds while playing 21.0 minutes per game.
- Porter had his best game to-date in Mizzou's win over Emporia State (Nov. 20), as the Tiger freshman recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
- The double-double was the first by a Mizzou freshman since the 2015-16 season when then-junior forward Kevin Puryear scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Auburn on Jan. 9, 2016.
- Porter has averaged five defensive rebounds per game, and has blocked at least one shot in three of four games, including a season-high three against Emporia State.
NOTES FROM THE EMPORIA STATE WIN
- Senior guard Kassius Robertson led Mizzou in scoring with his 12 points (3-10 FG, 1-7 3PT, 5-5 FT). Robertson's effort from the charity stripe was the sixth time in his career shooting perfectly while making at least five free throw attempts.
- Junior forward Kevin Puryear ran his streak of double-digit scoring games to six , dating back to last season, with his 11 points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3PT, 2-2 FT).
- Sophomore forward Reed Nikko led Mizzou in rebounds for the second-straight game with his eight boards at Utah (Nov. 16). Nikko tied freshman Jontay Porter for the team-lead in rebounds with eight in the 99-55 win vs. Wagner (Nov. 13). Additionally against the Utes, Nikko scored eight points for the second-straight game.
UP NEXT
- With 13 points against Emporia State (Nov. 20), freshman forward Jeremiah Tilmon led the team in scoring for the first time in his career. Tilmon sank 6-of-7 shots from the field in the win.
- Junior forward Kevin Puryear matched Tilmon's production on the stat sheet, scoring 13 points (4-of-9 FG, 0-of-1 3 PT, 5-of-5 FT). The 13-point output was the fourth time this season and the 45th time in his career Puryear has scored in double digits.
- The Tiger junior was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line in the game, just the second time in his career he has been perfect from the charity stripe when attempting at least five shots.
- Mizzou had seven blocks, the most since blocking 11 shots vs. Arkansas Pine-Bluff (Dec. 29, 2015).
