COLUMBIA, Mo. – A proven winner during his career who ranks among the nation's top rebounders, Jaylen Carey is the latest addition to the Mizzou men's basketball team with the fourth-year transfer signing with the Tigers on Thursday.
During the 2025-26 campaign, Carey accumulated 7.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game at Tennessee. He finished the season ranked 10th nationally in offensive rebounding percentage at 17.1 percent, while also placing 90th overall with 2.78 offensive boards per game in 18.5 minutes of action.
In three collegiate seasons at James Madison, Vanderbilt and Tennessee, Carey has helped his schools to three NCAA Tournament appearances – with an Elite Eight trip in 2026 and four total postseason victories – claiming 77 wins overall during his college career.
"Jaylen has great experience and has won at every step in his college career, including two seasons in the SEC," said Whitten Family Head Coach Dennis Gates. "He has demanded and earned respect from every coach and team in the SEC and is an enforcer inside. Jaylen brings muscle and strength to our interior and has a high IQ with strong playmaking ability for his size and position. We look forward to him joining our program this season."
A 6-foot-8 forward from Southwest Ranches, Florida, Carey has appeared in 106 games during his three collegiate seasons, including two in the SEC. He has totaled 791 points and 564 rebounds with a field-goal clip of 53.5 percent – averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 boards as a student-athlete. Carey has been especially strong on the offensive glass throughout his tenure and is projected to enter the 2026-27 campaign ranked 12th nationally among active players with 232 career offensive rebounds.
Carey is the third transfer to join the Tigers during the spring transfer period. Along with Providence transfer Jamier Jones, Kansas transfer Bryson Tiller and the nation's No. 4 freshman recruiting class, Carey joins a Mizzou program that is coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament bids and double-digit SEC-win campaigns for the first time since joining the conference in 2012.
