Tigers look to bounce back on Wednesday vs. Wichita State
COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 14 Mizzou Softball (26-10, 5-7 SEC) dropped the series finale against No. 10 Georgia on Sunday afternoon, 6-3. The Tigers struggled to find an answer for the high-powered Bulldogs offense all weekend long at University Field. Georgia tacked on three more home runs Sunday, keying its six runs on nine hits against Mizzou pitching.
Redshirt senior Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) and sophomore Amanda Sanchez (West Covina, Calif.) each tallied multi-hit efforts despite the Tigers' loss. Gadbois also produced two stolen bases (34th and 35th this season) while Sanchez earned one of Mizzou's two RBIs.
The visiting Bulldogs once again jumped out to a strong start Sunday. A first inning two-run home run put Georgia on top, but Mizzou quickly answered in the bottom half with an RBI ground out from redshirt senior Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.). Georgia tallied a single run in each of the second and third inning to extend its advantage to 4-1.
Mizzou cracked the scoreboard again in the third inning following a throwing error by the Bulldogs. Georgia once again had an answer to the Tigers' scoring with one run in the fourth and sixth inning. Mizzou made noise in the bottom of the sixth with Sanchez's RBI base hit but couldn't muster any additional runs.
KEY MOMENT
The Tigers had two on with one out in both the third and fourth innings. Mizzou's offense recorded one run out of the great scoring opportunities but couldn't tally additional pressure to the Georgia lead. The Tigers once again had two runners on in the sixth inning but consecutive strikeouts ended the potential scoring threat.
