COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Wrestling had a highly successful showing at the Maryville Brand Kaufman Open on Saturday in Maryville, Mo. In all, four Tigers grabbed open titles while five secured third-place finishes.

In the elite division, redshirt freshman 157-pounder Phyllip DeLoach (Alton, Ill.) and sophomore 165-pounder Connor Flynn (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) won their respective weight classes, while redshirt senior 141-pounder Zach Synon (Cary, Ill) and redshirt freshman 174-pounder Taylor Watkins (Columbus, Kan.) took third.

DeLoach scored a major decision in his opening-bout against Kyle Wilson (Baker), before rattling off three decision victories to claim his title. Flynn needed just three victories for his first-place finish, recording technical falls in his first two matches. Synon went 4-1 in the tournament, outlasting Mousa Jodeh (Illinois), 1-0, in the third-place match. Watkins went 5-1 on the day, defeating Fox Baldwin by a major decision, 14-4, to finish third.

In the amateur division, freshman 157-pounder Ethan Karsten (Platte City, Mo.) and freshman heavyweight Jake Bohlken (Smithville, Mo.) placed first, while freshman 174-pounder Canten Marriott (Excelsior Springs, Mo.), freshman 197-pounder Wyatt Koelling (Kaysville, Utah) and freshman heavyweight Dante Jiovenetta (Islamorada, Fla.) all finished third.

Karsten defeated a fellow-Tiger, freshman 157-pounder Sean Hosford (Kansas City, Mo.), 6-2, in the finals to capture his title. Bohlken beat Jiovenetta in the semifinal before defeating Shawn Beeson (Northeast Oklahoma), 6-3, in the finals. Marriott went 4-1 on the day, registering each victory with bonus points (two falls, one technical fall, one major decision). Koelling scored a fall over Gus Boyd (Northeast Oklahoma) at 1:09 to claim third, while Jiovenetta defeated Logan Radik (Maryville), 3-1, in his third place match.
