No. 15 Mizzou Drops Series Finale to No. 3 LSU

Crane, Fleming go a combined 3-for-4 in loss
COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 15 Mizzou Softball (35-11, 13-8) fell to the No. 3 LSU Tigers (42-8, 14-7) in the series finale on Monday night (April 27), 9-0 in five innings. LSU used five runs in the third inning and four runs in the fifth inning to avoid the Mizzou sweep.
After a quiet two innings, LSU exploded for five runs in the third inning. The purple and gold used a double from A.J. Andrews and an RBI single from Bailey Landry to take the lead, 1-0. A walk and a hit batter gave Kellsi Kloss an opportunity as she flew out to right field giving LSU one more run. With two runners on base, Sandra Simmons belted a three-run shot to give LSU five runs in the inning.
In the bottom half of the third inning, Mizzou advanced two runners into scoring position after Natalie Fleming (Silex, Mo) walked and Emily Crane (Troy, Mo) laced a double down the left field line. Mizzou was unable to capitalize in the inning, leaving two runners stranded.
Mizzou's Paige Lowary (Dallas Center, Iowa) worked effectively through the fourth inning, but LSU's Carley Hoover responded to set down Mizzou in order. Lowary recorded one of her three strikeouts in the inning.
In the top of the fifth, LSU's Bianka Bell hit a home run to lead off the inning. More timely hitting by LSU allowed three more runs to cross the plate in the fifth. After a groundout to start the bottom of the fifth, Fleming again reached base on single to give Mizzou life. However, the black and gold were not able to bring her home and were run-ruled, 9-0 to cap off the series.
