Freshman Brooke Kelly scored a 39.100 in the all-around
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou gymnastics team gave a sneak peek of the 2016 season to its fans with its annual Black and Gold exhibition Friday night (Dec. 11) at the Hearnes Center. The Tigers notched a team score of 193.175 after solid performances all around, including an all-around score of 39.100 from freshman Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Ala.).
Mizzou started the meet strong, with a team score of 48.800 on vault. Freshman Britney Ward (Ozark, Mo.) and sophomore Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tenn.) each led the way with scores of 9.800 apiece to pace the Mizzou. Kelly tallied a 9.750, sophomore Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) and Madeleine Huber (St. Louis, Mo.) both scored 9.725s and junior Angie Kern (Columbia, Mo.) had a 9.700.
The Tigers went six-for-six on bars in the second rotation for a 48.575 as a team. Kelly had a team-best 9.800 to pace Mizzou, while Huber, sophomore Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minn.) and freshman Allison Bower (Mesa, Ariz.) all scored 9.700s.
Scores of 9.825 from Kelly and Ward on beam helped the squad tally a team total of 48.800 on the apparatus. Miller added a 9.750, while Bower went 9.725 in the leadoff spot.
Kelly recorded her third team-high event score of the night on floor with a 9.725, while freshman Michaelee Turner added a 9.600.
Mizzou officially opens the 2016 season on Friday, Jan. 8 when the squad hosts Illinois at 7 p.m. in the Beauty and the Beast event. The Mizzou wrestling team will host Buffalo at the same time on the Hearnes Center floor.
