Athens, Ga. - Mizzou Women's Basketball fell to 10-6 overall and 0-3 SEC on Thursday night in a 69-46 loss at No. 20 Georgia. Sophomore Jordan Frericks finished in double figures for the 12th time this season, and junior Morgan Stock finished with a season-high nine points on the night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Lady Bulldogs.
The first half got off to a quick start, with both teams scoring in the opening minute. Despite scoring first, the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead of the Tigers right off the bat and kept the lead throughout the half. Mizzou stayed close throughout the half and were competitive on the glass, outrebounding Georgia in the half. Frericks led both teams with eight points in the half, shooting 50-percent (4-of-8) from the field before the break.
The Lady Dawgs kept the pressure on after the break, increasing their lead to more than 20 at times. The Tigers, however were tough on defense, limiting Georgia to just 37-percent shooting, below its season average of 38.5-percent. Mizzou has now limited its last nine opponents to below their season averages. The Bulldogs shot just 25-percent from distance, also below their season average.
The Tigers continued to go hard on the glass, outrebounding the Bulldogs 40-38 and grabbing 27 defensive boards.
The Tigers return to Columbia on Sunday, Jan. 11, to host the Florida Gators in a 3 p.m. contest. The game is set to air on SEC Network and will mark the annual Blackout game. Fans are encouraged to wear black in support of the Tigers.
