Gainesville, Fla.- Led by sophomores Jordan Frericks and Sierra Michaelis, the Tigers finished with a 68-52 win over the Florida Gators. Mizzou improves to 12-9 overall and 2-6 SEC with the win. Frericks finished with her seventh double-double of the season, tallying 19 points and 13 rebounds.
After earning a 19-point victory over the Gators at home earlier this season, the Tigers knew it wouldn't be easy in Gainesville. Florida came out shooting 50-percent from distance in the first half, with Carlie Needles making 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Mizzou, however, did not let the Gators get ahead in the half. Frericks led Mizzou with 15 points and nine rebounds in the half, on the way to her seventh double-double of the season.
Mizzou shot better than 41-percent in the half, and Frericks was solid from the foul line making 3-of-4 shots. The Tigers used a 7-0 run early on to take the lead and hold on to it throughout the half. The Gators were able to tie things up with just under six minutes left, but sophomore Sierra Michaelis made sure the Tigers stayed ahead, scoring seven points for the Tigers in the last six minutes of the half.
The Tigers made sure to hold onto the lead after half despite the Gators keeping things close. With just under 11 minutes to play, the Tigers used a 20-1 run to pull ahead by 20, MU's largest of the game. Within that run, Michaelis knocked down back-to-back triples good for her second and third makes from distance in the game. Michaelis finished with 14 points on the night, just short of the then-career-high 18 points she tallied last season against the Gators.
The Tigers held the Gators to just 25-percent shooting in the second half. Florida's 52 points in the game also sit below their season average of 65, marking the 11th game this season that the Tigers have held an opponent to below its season scoring average.
Mizzou is back on the road next week, heading to Baton Rouge for a Monday night contest against the Lady Tigers. The Tiger matchup is set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network. Fans can log on to WatchESPN.com to watch the game as well.
