MUTigers.com will sit down with Mizzou gymnastics' incoming freshman this summer. This week we get to know Shauna Miller.
The Facts
Hometown: Knoxville, Tenn.
Club: Tataru's Gymnastics and Tumbling
High School: Farragut
What made you choose Missouri?
Shauna: "I chose Missouri because when I came for my visit the coaches were really nice and the whole team was very welcoming. I just felt like I was at home as soon as I stepped on campus."
You've been on campus for a while now. How is college so far?
Shauna: "It took a while to get used to. On the first day I got lost. Now that (summer classes) are almost over and it is time to go home I think I'll miss it. I'll miss being with the team and waking up and going to the gym and just being with everyone."
What is your favorite thing about college life so far?
Shauna: "Having a new team and teammates."
What are your personal goals for the season?
Shauna: "I want to help the team as much as I can. Try to compete on all four events and be as supportive as I can."
What is your favorite event?
Shauna: "I like all of them but probably bars."
How did you get started with gymnastics?
Shauna: "I started with Mommy and Me classes. Then I started taking classes with my sister and they asked me to be on a team. I was four so I was too young to compete so I waited until six."
What is your favorite gymnastics memory to this point?
Shauna: "Just getting really close to my coaches. This past season they pushed me to do my best and I was undefeated in all-around all season."
What do you like to do outside the gym?
Shauna: "I like to hang out with my friends. In the summer I like to go to the pool. I like to shop but I don't really get anything, I just look. And I like getting my nails done and doing hair."
If you didn't do gymnastics, what sport would you play?
Shauna: "Soccer because my whole family played soccer. I played it when I was younger."
What is something most people don't know about you?
Shauna: "I come off really shy and it takes a while for me to get used to people. But a lot of people don't know I can tell pretty good jokes. I'm kind of funny, I'm not going to lie."
