Freshman Abby Carr drove in all three runs for the Tigers, as they are now 15-18 this season, and 1-5 in SEC play.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou softball (15-18, 1-5 SEC) dropped the rubber match against No. 4/6 Alabama (28-2, 7-2 SEC), 4-3, on Sunday, March 22, at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Freshman Abby Carr produced her first career multi-home run game with two - her third in the series and the eighth of the season. Junior pitcher Marissa McCann pitched 3.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts, while allowing three runs as she moved to 5-7 this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers struck first, as Carr scored junior Abby Hay with her first home run of the day in the bottom of the second to make it 2-0.
However, a three-run home run for Alabama in the fourth propelled them out in front 3-2. The Crimson Tide once again capitalized on the momentum with another home run in the fifth to make it 4-2.
The long ball was the Tigers' kryptonite in this series, as the Crimson Tide scored all eight of their runs in the series via home runs.
Alabama knocked out McCann from the circle after 3.1 innings, as senior Courtney Donahue and sophomore Rylee Michalak would follow suit. Donahue pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one earned run - a solo home run in the fifth - and struck out one. Michalak pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings with one strikeout.
MU generated some momentum in the fifth with freshman Addy Waits, and freshman Sidney Forrester making their way on base. However, the Tigers would go down scoreless in the fifth frame.
A solo home run by Carr - her second of the game and would cut the Tigers' deficit to one as they headed into the final inning.
Carr would finish the game for the Tigers on the mound, pitching one inning - the seventh - and allowing zero runs and accumulating two strikeouts. On the offensive side of the first inning, the Tigers went down in order as they dropped the close match up 4-3.
