The Tigers move to 6-12 this season and are 1-1 at home.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou softball (6-12) went 1-1 on Day One of the Mizzou Invitational as it boasted a win against Wichita State in the home opener. Against the Shockers, the Tigers secured a 12-4 victory before dropping the second game to the Miami of Ohio Redhawks, 5-1, on Friday, Feb. 27, at Mizzou Softball Stadium.

Sophomore Sophie Smith recorded a season high with 3 RBIs against Wichita State, and freshman Sidney Forrester recorded a career-high three hits, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning against the Shockers.

Mizzou 12, Wichita State 4

The Tigers got off to a slow start, going scoreless in the first two innings, as Wichita State scored three runs in the third. Those runs came courtesy of a two-run shot in the 3rd before they added to it with a bloop single RBI in the 4th.

Mizzou clawed its way back, as it scored one on a fielder's choice with bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th. The Tigers continued their run in the bottom of the 4th as sophomore Sophie Smith smashed a two-run home run, giving the Tigers the lead in the contest, 4-3.

Forrester added to it with another two-run homerun, increasing the Tigers' lead 6-3 at the end of the 4th.

In the bottom of the 5th, junior Stefania Abruscato belted a two-run RBI double off the wall, adding to the Tigers' lead to make the score 8-3.

Wichita State answered in the top of the 6th with a solo home run, cutting into the Tigers' advantage, 8-4.

In the bottom of the 6th with bases loaded for the Tigers, freshman Abby Carr posted a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from junior Abby Hay, making the score of the contest 10-4.

The Tigers loaded the bases in the bottom of the 6th, and senior Haidyn Sokoloski concluded the game with a two-run single to give them the mercy-rule victory, 12-4.

Mizzou 1, Miami-Ohio 5

The Redhawks opened the scoring with a two-run home run at the top of the 3rd. Miami added to their advantage with a two-run RBI to make the score of the contest 5-0 at the top of the 5th.

In the top of the 5th, Freshman Outfielder Linny Ramsey earned her first collegiate hit with a single.

Freshman Sidney Forrester put the Tigers on the board with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1 at the end of the 5th inning.

At the top of the 7th, the Tigers held the Redhawks to 0 runs, keeping the same score as they headed into the bottom of the 7th. In the end, Miami's pitching staff shut the door on Mizzou, winning 5-1.
