Softball Splits Second Day of Cajun AC Louisiana Clash
2/21/2026 8:09:00 PM | Softball
The Tigers move to 5-10 on the season, as they are now 0-3 in road games thus far.
Mizzou softball (5-10) split the second day of the tournament as it throttled Houston with a dominant 8-2 victory, before dropping its second straight against the home team, McNeese State 4-1, on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond in Lake Charles, La.
Freshman Sidney Forrester recorded two home runs during the doubleheader, and senior Cierra Harrison threw her first complete game of the season against Houston.
Mizzou 8, Houston 2
Once again, the Tigers got out to the early lead for the third-straight game, as senior Emma Jackson recorded a two-RBI single, and then MU scored again on a senior Kayley Lenger single and an error. After scoring one more, the Tigers would complete a six-spot as freshman Sidney Forrester provided her second home run of the season.
Houston earned two back in the bottom half of the inning, and from then on, scoring would be sparse between the two sides. Mizzou would score two more – one in the fifth and one in the seventh – as the Cougars could muster anything more.
A large part of that limited scoring was due to senior starting pitcher Cierra Harrison, who picked up her second win of the season. Harrison would throw her first complete game of the season, as she allowed two earned runs on six hits, while tying her season high by striking out seven batters.
Sophomore Sophie Smith provided the rest of the offense, as she singled in both the fifth and seventh, both yielding one RBI apiece.
Junior Stefania Abruscato went three-for-four with two runs scored in this one.
McNeese State 4, Mizzou 1
Most of the highlights of this one came from the Cowgirls, as they held MU scoreless until the sixth inning. In the sixth, Forrester went yard for the second time today, the third of the season.
That run would be the only one for the Tigers, as they headed to the top of the seventh down 4-1 and loaded the bases before stranding all three runners.
Starting pitcher junior Marissa McCann fell to 1-3 this season, as she allowed three of the four runs in the bottom of the third. Junior Nathalie Touchet would enter in relief after three innings and pitch two innings, allowing one earned run and striking out two.
Sophomore Rylee Michalak was the final pitcher for the Tigers, as she forced the lineup to go three up and three down in the bottom of the sixth.
Freshman Addy Waits was the lone Tiger to collect multiple hits, and redshirt freshman Saniya Hill went one-for-one, as she came in to pinch hit in the top of the seventh.
