Softball Drops Both Games in Cajun AC Louisiana Clash Opener
2/20/2026 10:25:00 PM | Softball
The Tigers were outscored 9-3 from the sixth inning on, as they dropped down to 4-9 this season
Mizzou softball (4-9) suffered two late-game rallies, as it lost game one against Houston (9-1) 4-3, and game two against the home team, McNeese State (11-4) 5-1, on Friday, Feb. 20 at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond in Lake Charles, La.
The Tigers got outscored 9-0 in the sixth inning today, as they fell victim to two come-from-behind victories today to push them to 4-9 on the season.
Houston 4, Mizzou 3
The Tigers scored in the first inning for the second time this season, as freshman Abby Carr recorded her second career home run with a two-run shot over the scoreboard in left.
Junior starting pitcher Marissa McCann was cruising up until the sixth inning, as she allowed just two hits and struck out six. However, Houston would get to her in the sixth inning, as a solo shot to deep center field would cut the lead in half and knock her out of the game.
In relief, senior Courtney Donahue would get one out, but give up the lead, as a three-run home run would put Houston on top 4-2. As Carr would finalize the game from the circle.
MU would pose a small rally, as Carr collected her third hit of the day – a new career high – and an RBI on a single to left field. The Tigers loaded the bases after that, but ended up stranding them, as a flyout to center would cut the comeback short.
McNeese State 5, Mizzou 3
MU got on the board right out of the gate, as freshman Addy Waits led off the game with a home run, just two pitches into the game. This is Waits first of the season, as the first-year students continue to show off the power on day one.
The Tigers would continue to get a good swing on the ball throughout, as MU would put together seven hits in five innings, but only one swing plated a run. The Tigers would threaten multiple times, but would be plagued with base-running errors, as two runners were called out at third for leaving the base early.
Mizzou mimicked the first game in terms of the strong start from their starting pitcher, as senior Cierra Harrison would go six innings, allowing three hits and one walk, while striking out five.
Similar to the first game, McNeese started to find their rhythm against the bullpen, as a bunt single tied the game. The Cowgirls would take advantage once again, as a grand slam put them up 5-1.
The end of the game would have to wait, as a 29-minute delay held up action, as they discussed pitching substitutions. In the end, Carr would finish the inning with a strikeout, as we would head to the top of the seventh.
Mizzou would load the bases and plate two, but it wouldn't be enough as it fell 5-3.
