COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri softball team (21-15, 1-9 SEC) fell short in its series opener, 4-0, against No. 17/13 Alabama (25-10, 3-4 SEC) Friday night at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Alabama claimed its lead in the fourth inning with a Larissa Preuitt grand slam. The Crimson Tide loaded the bases with a series of base hits and a fielder's choice before Preuitt drove in the only runs of the game with one swing of the bat.
Aside from the grand slam, Jordan Weber put forth a strong effort in the circle to keep Mizzou in the game over 5.2 innings of work.
Kara Daly attempted to start a rally with a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, but the Tigers could not capitalize off their first runner in scoring position of the evening.
The Crimson Tide were bolstered by Montana Fouts, who allowed just two hits while striking out 12 in a complete-game shutout.
