TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Missouri (6-13, 1-5 SEC) was unable to drum up momentum against No. 38 Alabama on Friday evening, dropping the match 1-6.
The Tigers closely lost the doubles point after picking up speed on the final two courts. Ellie Wright and Romary Cardenas Rifka grabbed three games in their matchup against Kasia Pitak and Ola Pitak but were unable to seal the match. Emelie Schwarte and Elys Ventura battled back and won four games against Anna Parkhomento and Petra Sedlackova before the contest was halted. In singles play, Gabriela Martinez had a great first set performance against Anne Marie Hiser, and secured the only point for the team, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
"We want to congratulate Alabama on a great match. That is the best I have ever seen Alabama play" said coach Chris Wootton, "We came up short today and will watch film and get better for Sunday!"
Mizzou moves to play No. 8 Auburn on Sunday, March 27, at noon.
