
Mizzou Looks to Carry Momentum to Vanderbilt

Tigers play second-straight road game, Tuesday evening
NASHVILLE — After an SEC road win last week, the University of Missouri men's basketball team looks to carry its momentum into a Tuesday night matchup against Vanderbilt, Feb. 8 in Nashville. Dave Neal and Daymeon Fishback have the call on SEC Network, while Mike Kelly and Chris Gervino will have it on the Tiger Radio Network.
MIZZOU HEADLINES
- After several close defeats, Mizzou closed out a tight game last week on the road against Texas A&M.
- The Tigers avenged their earlier loss to the Aggies on Jan. 15, with a 70-66 win.
- In the win, Kobe Brown led the Tigers with a game-high 21 points and six rebounds. Brown went 11-of-12 at the charity stripe, including a pair to ice the win in the game's final seconds.
- Brown ranks third in the SEC in rebounds per game (8.1) and 15th in scoring with 13.1 points per game.
- Mizzou had its second-best shooting performance of the season, going 26-of-46 from the floor against A&M.
- Jarron Coleman has settled into SEC play in the last several weeks. Coleman has 15-straight games with a made three-pointer and is shooting 38.6 percent from behind-the-arc in conference play.
- In games against SEC opponents, Coleman is 19th in the conference in scoring and 12th in assists.
- Missouri has the fourth strongest schedule in the country, according to the NET rankings. The Tigers' SOS ranks second in the SEC and Mizzou is one of seven conference teams to have multiple Quad 1 victories.
- The last four conference games for Missouri have been decided by a combined 16 points, including two one-point losses.
- Mizzou is averaging 4.1 blocks per game, led by freshman Trevon Brazile who has a block in 13 of his 14 collegiate games. Brazile has totaled 31 blocks this season, currently ranking the sixth most all-time by a Mizzou freshman.
- Kaleb Brown has settled into his college career, playing a career-high 28 minutes against Texas A&M. The freshman had a career-high six rebounds and a block.
THE SERIES
- Mizzou has the edge in the all-time series by one, 7-6, but has controlled the series in recent years with four-straight wins against Vanderbilt.
- The Commodores are 5-4 all-time against Mizzou inside Memorial Gymnasium, as seven of the last eight meetings between the two teams have been in Nashville.
- The two teams were set to meet last year in Columbia, but the game was postponed due to health and safety protocols and was unable to be rescheduled.
- The last meeting between Mizzou and Vanderbilt was Feb. 26, 2020 where the Tigers had a nine-point road victory, 61-52.
SCOUTING VANDERBILT
- Vanderbilt who is just half a game ahead of Mizzou in the SEC standings, is coming off its first top-25 win since Feb. 5, 2020.
- The Commodores took down No. 25 LSU at home behind a 24-point performance from Rodney Chatman.
- Chatman, who has played in just eight games, notched six three-pointers.
- Vanderbilt is led by the SEC Preseason Player of the Year, Scotty Pippen Jr.
- Pippen Jr. leads the conference with 18.7 points per game, shooting 41.8 percent on the season.
- Vanderbilt ranks third in the SEC in three-point field goals per game, averaging over eight attempts.
- Jordan Wright is the Commodores leading rebounder with an average of six per game, while Pippen Jr. leads the team in assists.
UP NEXT
Mizzou returns home, Saturday, Feb. 12 as they look for their second win this season against Ole Miss. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. tip on SEC Network.
