AUSTIN, TX – The University of Missouri heads south to face the top-ranked University of Texas in its 2022 season opener this Sunday, Feb. 6.
Fall Season in Retrospect
The Tigers look to build on their 2-0 fall season record, which consists of dual-match victories over UT Martin from early September. The Skyhawks were shut out in both matches, 7-0, 5-0, with the wins being secured by Valentina Vazquez and Gabriela Martinez.
Bronte Murgett continued competition in the fall with a main draw invite to the ITA All-Americans Tournament held in South Carolina this past October. Murgett took down Carly Briggs (Florida) in the back draw singles bracket before the remaining consolation matches were canceled due to weather.
Mizzou also made appearances in the Milwaukee Classic as well as the ITA Central Regionals. The Tigers collected 15 singles wins and three doubles wins between the two tournaments.
A Look at the Longhorns
Texas wrapped up last season in the driver's seat and has yet to give up the No. 1 spot in the ITA Rankings. The Longhorns are off to a 4-0 start in 2022 with victories against Texas State, Florida Atlantic, SMU and No. 25 Baylor.
During the fall season, Kylie Collins and Charlotte Chavatipon advanced to the doubles quarterfinals of the ITA Fall National Tournament. Collins also made an appearance in the singles championship at the ITA Texas Regionals.
Collins and Charlotte checked in at No. 13 in the Dec. 8 doubles ranking. Collins also snatched a No. 40 singles ranking alongside Malaika Rapolu, who was slated No. 117.
The Tigers are scheduled to play the Longhorns at 2 p.m. inside the Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center. Live stats are available through the link on the website as well as on Twitter (@MizzouTennis).
