COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri gymnastics team heads into the 2023 season ranked No. 9 in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association 2023 preseason poll, marking the Tiger's highest initial ranking in program history.
Mizzou comes off a historic 2022 season where the team punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships for just the second time in program history. The Tigers finished a program-best fifth in the nation.
The Tigers are returning all of their postseason routines, including both national runners-up Sienna Schrieber on beam and Amari Celestine on vault. The two veterans look to carry momentum into 2023 and lead the Tigers in another successful season. They will be joined by six newcomers for the upcoming campaign.
"A top 10 pre-season team is definitely a good starting spot," Head Coach Shannon Welker said. "We certainly demonstrated the ability to compete and thrive in the SEC and at NCAA Championships last season. Our coaching staff and student-athletes believe in this team and are excited for the 2023 season."
Mizzou is set to compete in 10 total meets this season, featuring competition against seven teams in last year's top 25. The Tiger's first competition is slated for Jan. 8, as they travel to take on Illinois.
