Murgett gets ranked win in singles play, Murgett/Oliveira earn ranked win in doubles

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mizzou Tennis (15-16, 1-12 SEC) fell to No. 30 Arkansas (11-9, 4-9 SEC), 4-1, on Monday evening at the SEC Women's Tennis Tournament. Junior Bronte Murgett (Holmfirth, Great Britain) was able to continue her spectacular season, winning in both singles and doubles play.

Mizzou's 15 wins on the season rank as the fifth-most in a single season, matching its win totals from the 2002-03 and 2004-05 seasons. Mizzou's only seasons with better win totals in program history are 1978-79 (24), 1980-81 (23), 1979-80 (17) and 2015-16 (16).

DOUBLES

In doubles play, Mizzou's team of Murgett and senior Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal), ranked No. 36 nationally, picked up another victory to improve to 9-5 on the season. The duo beat No. 72-ranked Morgan Cross and Tatum Rive, 6-2, to record their fourth ranked win of the season. Arkansas won the doubles point after wins on courts two and three.

SINGLES

In singles play, Arkansas clinched the match after victories on courts three, four and six. Mizzou did pick up three victories in the match. At the No. 1 position, Murgett earned her second ranked win in as many matches, as she made quick work of No. 35 Indianna Spink, winning 6-2, 6-2. The victory marked the highest ranked win of Murgett's season, surpassing the victory she claimed over No. 50 Taylor Bridges (LSU) on April 10. Next to claim victory was Oliveira on court five, who defeated Laura Rijkers, 6-4, 6-2. Then, senior Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) picked up a 6-4, 7-6 win over Kelly Keller on court two to give Mizzou a 3-2 lead. However, Arkansas won the final two matches to seal the victory.
