Three more Tigers set program top-10 marks
AUBURN, Ala. — Mizzou Track and Field's Skylar Ciccolini (Lewistown, Pa.) broke the school record in the women's javelin on the first day of competition at the War Eagle Invitational on Friday evening, as three other Tigers also notched program top-10 marks.
Notable Finishes
Ciccolini's school record-breaking performance highlighted the day for the Tigers. With a throw of 56.00m (183-9), Ciccolini placed first in the event and overtook teammate Sophia Rivera (Brentowood, Mo.) for the top spot in the record book. The freshman also moved up in the national ranks, as she now holds the fifth best mark in the country.
Redshirt junior Melissa Menghini placed second in the women's 3000m steeplechase in a time of 10:14.32. Menghini, who holds the school record in the event, now ranks 22nd nationally.
Led by freshman William Sinclair (Tauwhere, New Zealand), the Mizzou men put up impressive numbers in the 5000m race. Sinclair finished in a time of 14:04.40, a new personal best and the second fastest time in program history. Behind Sinclair, redshirt freshman Marquette Wilhite (Warrensburg, Mo.) and redshirt sophomore Mitchell Small (Christchurch, New Zealand) also moved into the record book, as they now hold the sixth and 10th fastest times, respectively.
Quotables
Head Coach Brett Halter on the team's performance… "Another impressive day at the track for the Tigers. We knew heading into the weekend that Auburn would provide us a terrific opportunity for a mid-April test which would provide us a nice benchmark as to where we are as we begin our slide into postseason."
"We had a number of performances today that were, not long ago, exciting personal bests. And, we had a number of outstanding breakthroughs! Nearly each of our 5000m runners posted a new best tonight."
"I am thrilled for Skylar. She has worked diligently over the last two years refining her technique-just putting in the work. Exciting to see the validation of her efforts!"
