
Barrios Breaks Javelin Meet Record as Track and Field Finishes Day One of Battle on the Bayou

The senior took the victory and ranks No. 5 nationally for javelin.
BATON ROUGE, La. – Mizzou track and field's Valentina Barrios established the meet record for javelin during the first day of Battle on the Bayou on Friday at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
TOP TIGERS
Barrios, the school record holder and national champion, threw a 55.80m (183-1) to break the Battle on the Bayou javelin record. The senior claimed the event title and notched the No. 5 result on the national leaderboard for the 2026 outdoor campaign. The Tigers now have two javelin athletes in the nation's top five, with Skylar Ciccolini standing in second from her efforts at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. At this weekend's event, she followed Barrios in fourth with a 50.56m (165-10).
NCAA All-American Sam Innes bested his previous No. 2 all-time record for hammer throw with a 70.36m (230-10), becoming the second in Missouri history to surpass the 70-meter mark after Chris Rohr notched a 71.92m (235-11) in 2009. Innes' personal best landed him in fourth place and ranks seventh in Division I.
In Austin, Brianna Utecht represented the Tigers at the Texas Relays on Wednesday and Thursday. The Wichita State transfer placed sixth overall in the women's heptathlon with 5,449 points, a personal best and No. 6 all-time result for MU. In a field of 18, Utecht placed within the top ten in six of the seven heptathlon events. She set a personal record in the high jump with a 1.64m (5-4.50), and in the javelin throw with a 38.45m (126-1).

Graduate Dillon Leacock secured third in the 400m hurdles with a 50.93 to also mark third all-time on the Missouri charts and 21st nationally.
In her first time running the 1500m, Suzy Lecoutre placed fifth among a group of 30, tallying the program's No. 7 all-time result with a 4:20.56. Senior Allison Newman came in 17th with a personal best of 4:30.68.
On the men's side of the 1500m, Lasse Funck paced the Tigers with a 3:45.17, good for seventh place. Three clinched personal bests to claim 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively: Joseph Bariola with a 3:46.95, Ryder James with a 3:47.10 and Carter Spradling with a 3:47.20.
Senior Robert Hines created a personal best in the 200m, clocking a 21.54 to place 20th.
Senior Petra Gombas led the women's hammer throw squad for the second time in the outdoor campaign, placing 12th with a 54.97m (180-4). Kaitlyn Morningstar followed with a personal best of 52.87m (173-5), and Reagan Kimrey took home 14th with a 52.45m (172-1).
