COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 17/20 Mizzou Softball (25-7, 3-3 SEC ) will take on South Carolina (17-10, 0-6 SEC) in a three-game series, starting on Thursday.
South Carolina leads the all-time series with nine victories to Mizzou's eight. The teams last met during the 2019 season with Mizzou taking two of the three games.
Last weekend, the Tigers took on Auburn, winning the first two games of the series, before falling on Sunday while going for the sweep.
Offensively, Mizzou has been led by Jenna Laird, Brooke Wilmes, Kimberly Wert, and Hatti Moore. Jenna Laird leads the Tigers with a .421 batting average as a freshman. Brooke Wilmes currently has a team-high 32 runs scored out of the leadoff spot, while also smacking 10 doubles. Wilmes is currently sixth on the Mizzou all-time doubles list with 46.
Kimberly Wert and Hatti Moore have been moving up the Tiger leaderboards in career home runs with 11 and 12, respectively. Wert has moved into seventh in Mizzou history with 33 home runs. She also smacked five in her freshman season at Hofstra, putting her career total at 38. Hatti Moore smacked four homers in just three games last week to put her career total at 30, which is good enough for ninth on the Mizzou list.
In the circle, Jordan Weber has led the way. The typical Friday starter has an ERA of 2.59 with a 7-2 record. On Friday against Auburn, Weber went six innings with 13 strikeouts, a mark that had not been met by a Mizzou pitcher since Chelsea Thomas pitched against LSU in 2013. The sophomore only allowed one earned run in the contest.
The first two games of the series will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus and Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
