FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Mizzou Track and Field competed at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Ark., Friday, taking home four event wins against a field of ranked opponents. The men's and women's teams finished second and fourth overall, respectively.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Continuing his domination in the long jump, senior Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) won his third consecutive event with a jump distance of 7.81m (25-7.5). The school record holder in the event, Ward currently sits fifth in the country and holds an NCAA Championship qualifying mark.
Mizzou's second event win came from sophomore Jonathan Schmidt (Dresden, Germany) in the men's 800m run. Schmidt's new personal record time of 1:50.68 sits in the top-20 fastest times in the event this season.
Sophomore Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) set a new personal record in the men's triple jump win with a mark of 15.87m (52-0.75), which is good for top-10 nationally this season. Junior Jayson Ashford (Plainview Heights, Ill.) rounded out the event wins for the team, taking the men's 200m title with a 21.07 time.
The Tigers also recorded a number of personal best marks, highlighted by redshirt sophomore Mitch Weber (Saint Clair, Minn.) setting new career marks in the shot put and weight throw. Sophomore Ginger Murnieks (Lee's Summit, Mo.), who finished second in the 3000m race, also set a new career best with a time of 9:47.82.

Head Coach Brett Halter on the team's performance: "We had several notable marks today throughout a wide array of events. Both teams continue to train at an elite level and demonstrate the willingness to be tested against others, the stopwatch and tape measure when presented the opportunity. Our competitive integrity over the weekend matched our train efforts over the week. Both teams are where they need to be heading into the middle to late February. We are excited about our opportunities that lays ahead in the coming weeks."
UP NEXT
The Tigers will return to Nashville, Tenn., for the second time this season to compete in the Music City Classic. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, Feb. 11, and finish Saturday, Feb. 12.
