Blackwell and Schuchts score in double figures for Mizzou
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (9-22, 5-11 SEC) fell to the Tennessee Lady Volunteers (21-9, 10-6 SEC), 64-51, on Thursday night at the SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C. Mizzou had an eight-point lead at halftime, but let the lead slip away in the second half.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou came out of the gates with high energy, opening up an eight-point lead at 34-26 heading into halftime. The second half was a different story, as the Lady Volunteers outscored the Tigers 38-17 in the game's final 20 minutes. Mizzou's offense went cold, as the Tigers only scored six points in the third quarter. Tennessee ended the third period on a 15-0 run to take control of the game.
TOP TIGERS
- Freshman guard Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) led the team in scoring for the 15th time this season with 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
- Redshirt senior forward Hannah Schuchts (Tallahassee, Fla.) scored 11 points while shooting 3-of-5 from three and recording two blocks in the game.
NOTES
- Mizzou shot 76.5 percent from the free throw line in the game (13-of-17), marking the 16th time this season Mizzou has shot 75 percent or better from the charity stripe.
- The Tigers ended the season with a 74.3 percent success rate from the free throw line (421-of-567), tied with last season's mark for the seventh-best in program history.
- Mizzou made six three-pointers in the game and ended the season with 235, the sixth-most in a season in school history.
- Senior guard Amber Smith (Shreveport, La.) closes her career ranked 20th in scoring (1,299) and 10th in three-pointers made (126).
- Senior guard Jordan Chavis (Lexington, N.C.) finishes her career ranked fifth in three-pointers made (149) and 10th in three-point percentage (.363). Her season-mark of 42.4 percent from three (149-of-410) ranks seventh all-time in a single season for Mizzou.
- Schuchts had two blocks in the game to bring her career total to 140 blocks, fourth-best all-time at Mizzou. Her mark of 60 blocks this season ranks sixth-most all-time at Mizzou in a single season.
- Blackwell ended her freshman campaign with a stellar statistical line of 15.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Among freshmen program records, she finished the season ranked second in scoring (466), second in field goals made (155), second in free throws made (122), second in rebounding average (7.3), third in rebounds (225), fourth in scoring average (15.0), fifth in three-pointers made (34) fifth in assists (83) and 10th in blocks (19).
- Among freshmen program records, freshman forward Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) closed her season ranked first in three-point percentage (.878), second in three-pointers made (48), fourth in scoring (370), fourth in free throws made (79), fifth in three-point percentage (.381), sixth in scoring average (11.8) and 10th in field goals made (119). Her free throw percentage of 87.8 percent ranks fourth overall in a single season in program history.
- Blackwell (15.0 ppg) and Frank (11.8 ppg) become the first pair of freshmen in program history to average double figures in the same season.
