Tigers host Arizona State with plenty of exciting promotions
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 24 Mizzou Wrestling is back home this Sunday (Feb. 9) for one of its two final duals of the 2019-20 regular season. The Tigers will compete against No. 5 Arizona State at the Hearnes Center on Feb 9 at 1 P.M. (CT). Fans unable to attended Sunday's dual in Columbia can watch the dual live on ESPN3.
The Tigers, 5-1 at home, look to keep their home match advantage going this weekend. The Tigers have not lost a dual at the Hearnes this season and lost just one 'home' dual this season. That came against Illinois on November 14 which was a neutral site in St. Louis, although it was Mizzou's home dual. Since then, the Tigers have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 138-21 at home. The Sun Devils will be the toughest team the Tigers have faced this year as they have defeated Penn State (19-18), Iowa State (21-12), and Stanford (28-12) already this year. Mizzou Wrestling hasn't faced any team on Arizona State's schedule so far this year but will face Iowa State on February 22.
The Sun Devils come into Sunday's dual 10-1 on the year and 0-1 on away matches. Their one loss comes from Ohio State who defeated Arizona State, 17-16, on January 6. Since losing to Ohio State, the Sun Devils have gone 5-0 beating Harvard, Campbell, Iowa State, Oregon State and Stanford. They travel to Little Rock to face the Trojans on February 7 before traveling north to Columbia to face the Tigers. Mizzou beat the Sun Devils last year in Tempe, 30-12, with four pins from John Erneste, Jaydin Eierman, Zach Elam, and a huge pin by Daniel Lewis over second-ranked Zahid Valencia, who was the defending national champion at 174 pounds.
Sunday's dual will feature Mizzou Wrestling alumni returning to The Zou, along with Mizzou Football Head Coach Drinkwitz being the Honorary Coach of the match. If fans show up on time, Mizzou Wrestling is giving away free foam '2' Fingers so that every time the Tigers score, fans can hold up the foam finger. Bringing Canned Food gets you $4 admission as well helps Takedown Hunger, and any Greek Sorority/Fraternity members apart of any house get in free since it's Greek Night.
