Tigers get first win over Oregon State, fall to UC Davis

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Mizzou Softball split its two Friday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Tigers (10-4) won on a walk-off single in the ninth inning against Oregon State (8-4) before falling to UC Davis (7-5) in the afternoon.

Turning Point

Tied at 4-4 in the ninth inning, Mizzou was able to get the hit it needed from Hatti Moore. On a 2-2 count, the junior singled up the middle for the two-out RBI to score Imani Myint from third base.

Eli Daniel helped get the Tigers to the bottom of the ninth, striking out five batters in 4.1 innings. Daniel retired three-straight batters in the top of the ninth to strand the go-ahead run on third.

Top Tigers

Hatti Moore was 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI.
Cayla Kessinger was 2-for-2 with a run, drawing three walks.
Eli Daniel struck out five batters in 4.1 inning, allowing no batters on base.

UC DAVIS RECAP

Turning Point

The Aggies exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth inning, batting through their entire order. Emma Nichols was able to force two outs before being relieved by Megan Schumacher. UC Davis would attack the plate for six-straight hits in the deciding inning.

Top Tigers

Brooke Wilmes went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring a run and adding a stolen base.
Megan Moll and Kimberly Wert both hit solo home runs.
Emma Nichols struck out eight batters on the day in only 4.2 innings. The freshman has walked only two batters this entire season.

NOTES

Mizzou defeated Oregon State for the first time in program history. The Tigers were previously 0-5 against the Beavers.
Emma Nichols' eight strikeouts against UC Davis were the most by any Mizzou pitcher this season.
The Tigers improved to 3-1 in extra inning games with the win over Oregon State.
