COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou gymnastics team enters the 2021 season ranked No. 16 in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association 2021 preseason poll, the organization announced on Thursday. It matches last year's rankings as the highest preseason ranking since 2011 and marks the fifth-consecutive season Mizzou was selected in the top 20.
Missouri sat ranked at No. 14 nationally in March 2020 when the season was abruptly cut short prior to the final regular season meet. The Tigers return 10 gymnasts from that 2020 squad, who join five incoming freshmen and one transfer.
Mizzou will compete in a Southeastern Conference-only schedule in 2021, with the regular-season concluding with the SEC Gymnastics Championships on March 20 in New Orleans. The schedule includes two open dates for all schools in week five and 10 to allow for rescheduling of postponed events.
The Tigers officially open the 2021 season when the squad travels to Athens, Ga., to take on Georgia on Friday, Jan. 8. Mizzou opens the home portion of its schedule on Friday, Jan. 15 when the team welcomes Alabama to the Hearnes Center.
