COLUMBIA, Mo. - For the second week in a row, Mizzou gymnastics freshman Helen Hu (Chicago, Ill.) was named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Hu also claimed Co-Specialist of the Week honors a week ago and was the SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 7.
Only four meets into her collegiate career, Hu's three SEC weekly honors tie her with former Tiger Britney Ward for the most-ever by a Mizzou gymnast.
Hu won her team-leading fourth and fifth event titles of the season in the Tigers' narrow 196.700-196.650 loss at No. 14 Auburn on Jan. 24. She took home both the beam and bars crowns with scores of 9.95 and 9.925, respectively. The 9.95 on beam tied her career-best and marked her fourth score of 9.9 or higher on the event in as many meets this season. She owns season averages of 9.925 on beam and 9.869 on bars in 2020, and ranks tied for sixth nationally on the balance beam. Overall, she has three beam and two bars titles in Mizzou's four meets so far this year.
Mizzou hosts No. 14 Arkansas on Friday, Jan. 31 in the team's annual Pink Out meet. The Tigers and Razorbacks will face off at 6 p.m. CT, with pre-meet introductions slated to begin at 5:45 p.m. CT.
