COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 23 Mizzou Wrestling will be back in action this weekend as it hits the road for a pair of MAC duals Friday and Sunday. The Tigers open the weekend with a 6 p.m. (CT) dual at Central Michigan before closing the week at Kent State Sunday, with that dual beginning at 11 a.m. (CT). Friday's dual at Central Michigan will air live on ESPN3 and Sunday's dual will feature a web stream on Box Cast.
The Tigers, 6-5 (3-0 MAC) will look to extend their MAC winning streak this weekend. The Tigers have won 17 consecutive MAC duals dating back to 2017. Mizzou is coming off of a 1-1 weekend after defeating Ohio, 22-12, Friday in a MAC dual before losing at Big 12 foe Northern Iowa Sunday, 20-13.
The Chippewas come into Friday's dual at 2-3 on the year and 2-1 in MAC competition. They were last in action on the weekend of Jan. 3, falling to N. 5 Virginia Tech, 20-16, and then two days later to Northern Illinois, 19-12. Mizzou of course wrestled Virginia Tech to open the season, losing 29-10. Mizzou leads the all-time series with Central Michigan, 7-4-1, and claimed last year's meeting in Columbia, 32-15. The Tigers have won the last six duals against CMU dating back to 2013-14. Central Michigan won the first meeting between the two teams as MAC foes during the 2012-13 season, 17-16, but since then it's been all Tigers in the season series. In the last six meetings, the Tigers are 6-0 and have won the duals by a combined average score of 25-10.8.
Kent State comes into the weekend at 5-7 overall (1-2 MAC) and will wrestle Ohio Friday night (Jan. 17) before hosting Mizzou on Sunday. The Tigers are 9-1 all-time against Kent State, including a 44-0 win at the South Beach Duals last season. Kent State has been held to single-digit point totals in the last three duals against Mizzou, including a 34-4 win in 2016-17 and a 44-3 win in 2017-18.
