No. 23 Mizzou Wrestling Comes Up Short at No. 14 UNI

Mauller picks up top-10 win over Max Thomsen in tight dual
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – No. 23 Mizzou Wrestling dropped a hard-fought dual, 20-13, at No. 14 Northern Iowa Sunday (Jan. 12). The Tigers jumped out a 10-6 lead following the first five bouts, but with Northern Iowa featuring three top-15 wrestlers in the final five bouts, the Tigers came up just short despite trailing by just three points heading into the final match at heavyweight. Mizzou falls to 6-5 on the season with the loss.
Mizzou won three of the dual's first five bouts, highlighted by a huge 3-1 win by Brock Mauller over UNI's No. 7 Max Thomsen. After fending off several late third-period shots from Thomsen, Mauller used a takedown with 20 seconds remaining in the sudden victory period to earn the top-10 win.
At 133 pounds, Allan Hart secured a big bonus-point win with a 14-2 decision and Jarrett Jacques earned an 8-5 win over Keaton Greets to extend Mizzou's lead to 10-6 heading into the intermission.
Following the intermission, Peyton Mocco was in an exciting bout with Austin Yant, scoring late takedown to send the bout into overtime. Unfortunately, Yant earned a 4-3 win in the tiebreaker period. That pulled UNI within a point in the team race as Mizzou led 10-9 moving into 174 pounds.
The Tigers then lost bouts to a pair of top-five wrestlers at 174 and 184 as UNI opened a 16-10 lead, and Mizzou then needed to win the final two bouts to tie or win the dual. Wyatt Koelling earned a huge 5-2 win over Noah Glaser to set up a huge heavyweight bout, but No. 14 Carter Isley earned a 10-1 major decision win over Mizzou's Rodrigo Diaz to secure the win.
