Deberg posts 21 kills despite the loss
WACO, Texas – No. 17 Mizzou Volleyball (8-1) dropped its first contest of the season Friday evening inside the Ferrell Center, following a 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 24-26) loss to No. 5 Baylor. Each set was tightly contested in the early and middle stages, but the host Bears used late runs in sets one and two to power their match victory.
In set three, Mizzou erased a 24-22 deficit and forced extra points after a kill and Baylor attack error. The Bears quickly responded however, taking advantage of a Tiger attack error and ace to clinch the match.
Junior Kylie Deberg was sensational yet again despite Friday's loss, posting her second 20-plus kill match of the year. The Hudson, Iowa, native also produced a season-high three aces. Deberg has multiple aces in all nine contests this season.

Hear From Interim Head Coach Joshua Taylor
On the Tigers' weekend-opening matchup against Baylor…
"I thought we battled all night against a really good Baylor team. We knew this would be a tough opponent and environment. Baylor took advantage of some late runs in almost each set and that was the difference tonight. I think we can learn from our mistakes and use that in preparation of tomorrow versus another great team in Hawaii."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Friday marked Deberg's fourth career 20-plus kill match. She recorded two in her 2018 sophomore campaign and already has matched that number through only nine matches played in her 2019 junior season.
- Fuentes tallied 35-plus assists for the seventh time this year. Three of those occurrences have come in a three-set match.
- Mangual-Duran produced a team-best 12 digs against the Bears, marking her fourth double-digit dig performance this season.
