Mizzou to play three teams coming off postseason appearances
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Coming off of the program's 13th-straight NCAA Regional appearance, Mizzou Softball will open the 2020 season against three programs coming off of berths in the NCAA Tournament at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The 19th version of the Association's season-opening tournament, presented by Rawlings, will take place Feb. 7-9 at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The 2020 field features 10 collegiate programs that participated in the postseason last year, and the United States Women's National Team. The Division I Leadoff Classic is returning this season for the first time in five years.
Mizzou will open the season against Notre Dame (Feb. 7, noon ET), and will close out the first day against South Alabama (5 p.m.). On Saturday, the Tigers will play Baylor (10 a.m.) and Minnesota (12:30 a.m.), before closing out the tournament against Louisville on Feb. 9, at 10 a.m.
Notre Dame and Louisville are both coming off of appearances in the regional round, while Minnesota reached the Women's College World Series in 2019.
"You can see how this is a great tournament to start off our 2020 season," head coach Larissa Anderson said. "We will face an impressive tournament field at a fantastic venue. It is great that the NFCA has restarted the Leadoff Classic
Mizzou is coming off of a 35-25 record in 2019 in the first season under Anderson. The Tigers were a regional finalist last season, going 3-2 at the Los Angeles Regional, where they earned a win over eventual national champion UCLA.
