STORYLINES
- Mizzou heads to Starkville for the weekend, as the Tigers will square off against the Bulldogs in a three game series.
- Mizzou currently owns an 11-4 advantage over Mississippi State.
- The Tigers dropped their series against the Bulldogs last season, losing two of three in Columbia.
- Mizzou most recently swept SEMO, coming back to win game one, 4-3, and then winning game two 4-1.
- The Tigers are currently enjoying a six-game winning streak, matching their longest streak this season.
- It is the first time the Tigers have had two such streaks in a season since 2016.
- With their 29 wins this season, the 2019 Tigers have already surpassed their regular season win total from last season, 28.
- Mizzou also swept Texas A&M over the weekend in Columbia.
- Mizzou has now won 10 conference games for the first time since 2016, when the Tigers finished with 14 wins in SEC play.
- With just five more SEC wins, head coach Larissa Anderson would match the program's best-ever win total in the SEC.
- With the sweep of the Aggies, Mizzou earned its first-ever sweep in Mizzou Softball Stadium. Mizzou's last home sweep came back in April of 2016, when the Tigers took three straight from then-No. 16 Texas A&M.
- Mizzou's sweep of the Aggies was its first since the Tigers swept No. 13 Kentucky back in late March (22-24). Mizzou last swept two SEC opponents back in 2016, when the Tigers swept A&M and Mississippi State in back-to-back weeks.
AN ELI-TE CLOSER
- Junior P Eli Daniel has become Coach Anderson's go-to closer since SEC play began.
- Daniel now has eight saves this season, the most ever by a Tiger pitcher in a single season.
- Daniel is one of just three pitchers in the nation with eight or more saves this season.
- Daniel earned her first saves this season in back-to-back fashion, helping Mizzou hold off Kentucky (March 24) and then preserving a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh against Tennessee (March 31).
- Daniel has been just as effective in relief during midweek games, as she collected a save in game one against Wichita State (April 3) and another in game two against Illinois (April 9).
- Daniel picked up another road save against Ole Miss in Mizzou's lone win of the series, as she went 1.2 hitless innings against the Rebels to preserve a three-run lead.
- Daniel's most recent saves came against SEMO, as she worked perfect seventh innings in both games to earn saves No. 7 and No. 8.
WERT ALERT
- Sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert added another homer to her season tally during the Mizzou's doubleheader against SEMO, and she now has 17 on the year. The program record of 20 was set by Amanda Renth back in 2008.
- Wert is one of just 16 players in the country with 17 or more long balls so far this season.
- Wert is the first Tiger with 17 homers in a season since Emily Crane had 17 back in 2016.
- With her 17th homer, Wert joins Micaela Minner as the only underclassman to accomplish the feat in Tiger Softball history.
- The sophomore 3B is the only first-year Tiger ever with 17+ homers in a single-season.
SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI STATE
- Mississippi State currently owns a 27-19 record and are 4-14 in SEC play so far this season
- The Bulldogs have been strong at home this season, boasting an 18-8 record in their 26 games in Starkville.
- The Bulldog offense is absolutely loaded, as they are the only NCAA team with two different players to hit 20+ home runs this season.
- Sophomore C Mia Davidson leads the way, and she is having an extraordinary offensive season.
- Her 23 homers are the most in DI softball so far this season, and she is batting .424 to go along with it.
- Davidson also already has 55 RBI, 133 total bases, and owns a remarkable 1.008 slugging percentage.
- Davidson is flanked by Fa Leilua, who has 20 home runs herself.
- The ASU transfer has been nearly as good, posting 46 RBI and an .814 slugging percentage. Leilua is hitting .343 this season.
- Emily Williams leads the Bulldog pitching staff, as she has posted a very solid 2.39 ERA over her 117 innings pitched.
- Williams also leads the team with 119 strikeouts.
