2019 NCAA Bracket | Regional Rotation Order
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 19 Mizzou gymnastics team will travel to Athens, Ga., to compete in the 2019 NCAA Athens Regional on Friday, April 5 at 1 p.m. CT at Stegeman Coliseum, the NCAA announced on Monday. The bid marks the Tigers' fifth-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and the 29th overall bid in program history.
Missouri will compete in the first round afternoon session against No. 8 Georgia, No. 9 Kentucky and No. 22 Iowa State, while No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 15 California, Maryland and the winner of April 4's North Carolina State and New Hampshire play-in meet go in the evening session. The top two finishers in each session advance to the Regional second round on Saturday, April 6 at 6 p.m. CT, and the top two finishers from the second round will move on to the 2019 NCAA Championships.
As the third-seed in the afternoon session, the Tigers will open competition on floor, then rotate to vault, bars and end on beam.
Mizzou concluded the regular season ranked 19th in the national rankings with a national qualifying score of 196.385. The squad scored over 196 six times in 2019, including a season-high 196.800 on March 15. Missouri also stands as one of only five teams nationally with a 49 or higher on floor every meet this season, joining No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Florida, No. 6 Utah and No. 15 Oregon State.
The top 36 teams based on national qualifying score (NQS) were selected for regional competition. The committee named the top 16 teams and seeded them in the bracket. Seeding determined at the time of selections will be maintained through the championship. Teams 17-36 were placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Nine teams will compete at each of the four regional sites.
The top two teams and the top all-around competitor (who is not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the top event specialist at each regional site who is not part of an advancing team or all-around competitor, will advance to the national championships in that event only.
The national championships will take place April 19-20 in Fort Worth, Texas at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena. The championship event is hosted by Texas Woman's University and Knight Eady. The top two teams from the Ann Arbor and Baton Rouge regionals will compete in the first semifinal, and the top two teams from the Athens and Corvallis regionals will compete in the second semifinal.
