Joven and Gubelman shine on the bump, Vierling delivers game-winning hit
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (12-8) utilized superb pitching and a clutch late hit Tuesday, en route to a 2-1 victory over Murray State. Junior LHP Art Joven delivered the top performance of his Tiger career, limiting the Racers to one run (unearned) over 7.2 innings of work while striking out 10.
Following a strikeout by senior RHP Jordan Gubelman to close the top of the eighth inning, sophomore 2B Mark Vierling delivered a clutch RBI single in the bottom half for the eventual game winner. Gubelman wrapped up another dominant appearance in the ninth with three additional strikeouts.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Tuesday's performance against the visiting Racers…
"Overall, we seemed like we were flat from this past weekend still. We played in really tight games in Fayetteville, so I guess we wanted to play in a tight game tonight too. I was expecting us to break out offensively. We scattered nine hits, but it was hard to push a run across. Overall though, we found a way to win."
On Joven's big start on the mound…
"It was really good. He was scuffling a little bit early tonight with location. All of a sudden he found his breaking ball and he could land it anytime. That gave him some confidence. One thing we have to get rid of is when we loaded the bases. That was self-inflicted by a walk and an error. That's going to bite us come conference play. We need to be a little bit cleaner there. After that though, he hit cruise control and was really dominant. I really liked the way he threw the ball tonight."
