Tigers tie it in top of ninth, but Razorbacks earn walk-off win in bottom half
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mizzou Baseball (11-8, 0-3 SEC) fell 3-2 Sunday afternoon to No. 10 Arkansas in the series finale at Baum Stadium. The Tigers used a two-run home run in the ninth inning by junior INF Peter Zimmermann to square the score at two apiece, but Arkansas quickly answered with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom half.
Two of the three Tigers' losses this weekend were by only one run. Mizzou continually competed tough against its top 10 opponent, but the home team routinely found ways to one-up the Tigers.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Sunday's tough loss against the Razorbacks…
"It was a very disappointing outcome. I thought we played really well. We made some team mistakes which are unacceptable. We gave some extra outs. Those are things that can't continue to happen and it was the difference in the ballgame."
On the Tigers' missed opportunities early in the game…
"We need some guys to 'clutch up' and get that clutch hit. We had Arkansas on the ropes all game and weren't able to put them away. We should've put it away early. We knew the pitching we had on the mound would be dominant pretty early on. They ran into one ball for a home run. After that we gave them a second run and it was the difference in the ballgame."
On LaPlante's outstanding start on the mound…
"Tyler is a good pitcher. We got a good pitching staff. We have to continue to work off that pitching staff. We just have to be better with runners in scoring position on offense. That has been the case a lot. There's a lot of new guys in our lineup. Some guys have to dig deep and find a way to come through in those situations."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Zimmermann's blast in the ninth inning was his first as a Tiger. He becomes the seventh individual this season with a home run and the first blast by a Tiger in Southeastern Conference play.
- It also secured Zimmermann's first career multi-RBI effort. 10 Tigers now have recorded a multi-RBI game this season.
- Five Tigers recorded a hit Sunday. Sophomore OF Clayton Peterson and freshman OF Josh Holt Jr. extended their respective reached base safely streaks with their knocks to 15 games and five games, respectively.
- Junior SS Chris Cornelius also extended his reached base streak to nine games with a walk.
- LaPlante was simply untouchable through his first five innings of work Sunday, retiring the first 15 batters he faced. The Razorbacks didn't record a hit until their leadoff home run in the sixth inning.
- LaPlante has been a steady force for the Tiger rotation this year, limiting the opposition to two earned runs or less in all five of his starts.
