Storylines
- Mizzou and Mississippi State meet for the 12th time in their program histories and for the sixth time in Starkville. Mizzou is looking for its first-ever win in Starkville.
- Mizzou is seeking back-to-back wins in the head-to-head series with Mississippi State for the first time since victories in 1974 and 2007.
- Mizzou snapped a five-game losing streak in the series with Mississippi State last season, prevailing 89-85 over the Bulldogs in an overtime thriller. It was the first overtime game in the all-time series.
- In that overtime win, current Mizzou seniors Kevin Puryear and Jordan Geist keyed the victory late. Puryear drained the game-winning, go-ahead triple to put Mizzou up by two and Geist drew a charge to help the Tigers get the final defensive stop it needed. Geist, Puryear and current Mizzou sophomore Jeremiah Tilmon combined for 38 points in that outing.
- Since Nov. 18, senior point guard Jordan Geist is averaging 15.2 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 37.9 percent from 3-point range and boasting a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. He has reached double figures 20 times in the last 23 games. He has scored 15+ points 11 times this season after notching 15+ just six times in his previous two seasons combined. Geist reached double figures for a career-best ninth consecutive game with a team-high 16 points at Florida.
- The Tigers have outrebounded their opponent 19 times in 26 games this season, including in six of the last seven contests. Mizzou is limiting opponents to 32.1 rebounds per game during league play, which ranks second in the SEC behind only Kentucky, and is 41st nationally. Mizzou has snagged at least 31 boards in all but five games this season.
- Mizzou has held opponents under 70 points 35 times in the Martin era, which amounts to 59.3 percent of the games with him at the helm. When the Tigers have done so this season, they are 11-3.
A Stellar Senior Season
- Senior guard Jordan Geist reached double figures for the 20th time in the past 23 games and for his career-best ninth consecutive game after scoring 16 points at Florida. Over the last nine outings, Geist is averaging 14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
- With 10+ points Tuesday night vs. Mississippi State, Geist would become the first Tiger to score double-digits in 10 consecutive games since First-Team All-SEC honoree Kassius Robertson did so last season
- Geist ranks 12th in the league in scoring (14.2 PPG). He is one of three players in the SEC ranking among the league's top 12 in scoring and top nine in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) alongside Jared Harper and Tremont Waters.
- Geist has scored 368 total points in 26 games this season, surpassing his 2017-18 total (242 points).
- Geist has committed just 38 turnovers in his last 686 minutes played. That's one turnover every 18.1 minutes in that span.
- Geist has reached double figures in 76.9 percent of games in 2018-19 after doing so in just 30.3 percent of games last season.
- Geist has improved his scoring average from 7.3 PPG to 14.2 PPG in one season.
Youth Production
- 61.9 percent of Mizzou's scoring this season has come from players who are freshmen or sophomores, and that doesn't include transfer Dru Smith, who averaged 13.7 PPG as a sophomore at Evansville. 68.4 percent of Mizzou's scoring has come from players slated to return in 2019-20.
- Freshman Javon Pickett has started all 26 games during his rookie season. In addition to being Mizzou's defensive stopper, Pickett has reached double figures 10 times this season. Pickett notched 15 points and set career-highs for rebounds (six) and steals (three) in Mizzou's last outing at Florida.
- Freshman Xavier Pinson has logged at least 22 minutes in six of the last eight games. He's chipped in at least eight points in seven of the last 10 contests, including 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds in two consecutive games vs. Arkansas and Ole Miss.
- Freshman Torrence Watson is averaging 7.5 points per game over the last eight games, draining at least one triple in all eight contests. He scored nine points at Florida, hitting three treys.
