Storylines

  • Mizzou and Kentucky meet for 13th time in their program histories. Mizzou picked up its first win over the Wildcats in program history last season with a 69-60 victory over then-No. 21 Kentucky at Mizzou Arena. Mizzou held Kentucky to just 18 first-half points and 31.3-percent shooting for the game on its way to a win in front of a sold out Mizzou Arena.
  • Mizzou has 20 wins all-time vs. opponents ranked No. 4 or higher, including seven vs. teams ranked No. 4. The Tigers' last win over a Top-4 team was an 89-88 triumph over No. 3 Baylor in Waco, Texas on Jan. 21, 2012. The last such win at home came over Blake Griffin and No. 4 Oklahoma (73-64) on March 4, 2009. NBA star DeMarre Carroll led Mizzou with 15 points and 10 rebounds in that win.
  • Mizzou is 3-3 at home against ranked opponents under Cuonzo Martin. .
  • Since Nov. 18, senior point guard Jordan Geist is averaging 15.4 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 38.5 percent from 3-point range and boasting a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. He has reached double figures 18 times in the last 21 games. He has scored 15+ points 10 times this season after notching 15+ just six times in his previous two seasons combined. 
  • After piling up 39 rebounds vs. Arkansas, including 16 offensive boards, Mizzou outrebounded Ole Miss 37-21 on Saturday, its largest margin of the season. The Tigers have outrebounded their opponent 17 times in 24 games this season. Mizzou is limiting opponents to 32.4 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the SEC behind Kentucky, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Mizzou has snagged at least 31 boards in all but four games this season.
  • Mizzou has held opponents under 70 points 33 times in the Martin era, which amounts to 57.9 percent of the games with him at the helm. When the Tigers have done so this season, they are 11-1. Last Tuesday's win over Arkansas marked the Tigers' first victory of the season when allowing 70+ points.

Senior Leader at Point Guard

  • Senior guard Jordan Geist reached double figures for the 18th time in past 21 games and for the seventh consecutive game after pouring in 23 points on a career-best nine made field goals at Ole Miss. Over the last seven outings, Geist is averaging 15.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists. 
  • Geist is one of four players in the SEC ranking among the top 15 in the league in scoring (14.2) and top 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) alongside Jared Harper, Tremont Waters and Grant Williams.
  • Geist has scored 341 total points in 24 games this season, surpassing his season total from last year (242 points in 33 games). 
  • Geist has committed just 34 turnovers in his last 610 minutes played, including just seven total turnovers in the last five games (168 minutes). That's one turnover every 17.9 minutes in that span.
  • Geist has reached double figures in 75 percent of games in 2018-19 after doing so in just 30.3 percent of games last season.
  • Geist has improved his scoring average from 7.3 PPG to 14.2 PPG (13th in the SEC) in one season. 

Freshmen Success

  • Mizzou's trio of freshmen - Xavier Pinson, Torrence Watson and Javon Pickett - is settling in, accounting for 37 percent of Mizzou's scoring, 48.7 percent of Mizzou's assists and 26.7 percent of Mizzou's rebounding over the last seven games. The trio has combined to post 25.3 points per game, 5.3 assists per game and 9.7 rebounds per game in that span.
  • In Mizzou's win over Vanderbilt on Feb. 2, Mizzou's freshmen and sophomores accounted for 57 of Mizzou's 77 total points.
  • 58.2 percent of Mizzou's scoring this season has come from players who are freshmen or sophomores, and that doesn't include transfer Dru Smith, who averaged 13.7 points per game as a sophomore at Evansville. 68.3 percent of Mizzou's scoring has come from players slated to return in 2019-20.
  • Pickett has started all 24 games during his rookie season. In addition to being Mizzou's defensive stopper, Pickett has reached double figures nine times this season. 
  • Watson has reached double figures in three of the last six games, matching his career-high with 12 points vs. Texas A&M.
  • Pinson has logged at least 24 minutes in five of the last six games. He's chipped in at least eight points in seven of the last eight contests, including 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds in two consecutive games vs. Arkansas and Ole Miss.
