
Mizzou Women’s Basketball Drops Nail-biter to New Mexico, 71-68

Frank leads the Tigers with career-high 29 points
CANCUN, Mexico. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (2-5, 0-0 SEC) fell to New Mexico, 71-68, on Thursday at the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico. Freshman forward Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) played the best game of her young career, as she paced the Tigers with 29 points while adding six rebounds.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou held a seven-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but New Mexico was able to close the game on a 13-3 run to finish off the comeback win. The Lobos outscored the Tigers, 16-7, in the game's final frame.
TOP TIGERS
- Frank led the Tigers in scoring for the second time this season, scoring 29 points while shooting 9-of-14 from the field, 4-of-5 from three and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Frank also had six rebounds, one steal and one block in the game.
- Senior guard Jordan Chavis (Lexington, N.C.) scored 11 points and made 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc in the game. She also had a team-high four assists.
- Redshirt senior forward Hannah Schuchts (Tallahassee, Fla.) led the team in rebounds with eight and matched a career-high in assists with four.
NOTES
- With the loss, Mizzou drops to 2-2 all-time against New Mexico.
- Mizzou shot 50 percent (8-of-16) from three in the game, matching a season-high from its 10-for-20 performance against Northern Iowa (Nov. 13).
- The Tigers were successful on 84.2 percent (16-of-19) of its shots from the from the free throw line, marking a season-high.
- It is the sixth time in seven games Mizzou has shot 75 percent or better from the line, and the fifth time this season they have shot 80 percent or better.
- Frank's 29 points was a new career-high, the most by a Tiger this season and the most by a Mizzou freshman since Sophie Cunningham scored 29 points against Kentucky on Feb. 25, 2016.
- Frank also set career highs in field goals (nine), three-pointers (four), rebounds (six) and minutes (34).
- The Tiger freshman has now scored in double figures in five straight contests, a stretch where she has averaged 17.0 points and 4.2 rebounds.
- With 11 points, Chavis scored in double figures for the third time this season and the 16th time in her career.
- The Tiger senior drained three shots from the three-point line, marking fifth time this season and the 20th time in her career she has made multiple threes in a game.
- Schuchts pulled down eight rebounds to lead the team, marking the sixth time this season and the 22nd time in her career she has had at least five rebounds.
- The senior forward also matched a career-high in assists with four.
- Freshman guard Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) matched a career-high with five rebounds and added five points.
