Mizzou wins for the first time in Knoxville, and for the first time over a top-10 ranked opponent on the road
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball recorded its first ever regular season road win over a top-10 ranked opponent on Sunday, as the Tigers beat the No. 10-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, 66-64. The win was also Mizzou's first ever win at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, as the Tigers were led by 20 points from senior guard Sophie Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) and 16 points off the bench from redshirt freshman guard Haley Troup (Gadsden, Ala.).
The win was Mizzou's second ranked win on the season – both coming on the road – after the Tigers defeated the No. 21-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, 68-51, on Dec. 2.
Mizzou shot at an impressive clip for the second straight contest, as the Tigers 44.9 percent from the field (22-for-49) and 45.5 percent from three (10-for-22). The Tigers' mark from deep was the third-best of the season, as the Tigers buried 10 triples, led by four from Troup, three from Cunningham and three from redshirt senior guard Lauren Aldridge (Marshfield, Mo.).

TURNING POINT
In a tightly contest game which featured six ties and 13 lead changes, Mizzou grabbed a four-point lead late in the third quarter thanks to back-to-back three-pointers from Aldridge. Her triples were part of an 8-0 run for Mizzou, and a 10-4 run to close the quarter for the Tigers, who led two heading into the fourth quarter. Tennessee would grab the lead twice in the fourth quarter, but never led by more than one as the momentum had clearly shifted in Mizzou's favor.
In the high scoring third-quarter, Aldridge led the way for Mizzou with eight points, while Cunningham chipped in seven. The Tigers shot 72.7 percent from the field (8-for-11) and 66.7 percent from three (4-for-6) in the quarter to take control of the game.
TOP TIGERS
- With 20 points, Cunningham recorded her sixth 20-point game of the season, and the 39th of her career. The Tiger senior also recorded six rebounds and six assists in the game and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the game.
- Troup played a crucial 29 minutes off the bench for Mizzou, as she scored a career-high 16 points and shot 4-for-6 from the three-point line. All three were career highs for the Tiger freshman.
- Aldridge finished with 12 points in the game and was successful on all three of her three-point attempts. She also added five rebounds and three assists in a team-high 34 minutes of action.
NOTES
- After coming up unsuccessful in its previous four trips, the victory was Mizzou's first ever at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. The loss was only the 40th loss ever suffered by the Lady Vols in Thompson-Boling Arena, which opened in 1987-88.
- The win was also Mizzou's first ever road win over a top-10 ranked opponent in the regular season, and its first overall since beating No. 4 Georgia, 78-65, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 18, 2001.
- With 20 points, six rebounds and six assists, Cunningham recorded just the 10th occurrence of 20+ points, 6+ rebounds and 6+ assists by a Tiger since the 1999-00 season. Cunningham has reached the mark three times now, doing so once in each of the last two seasons. Others to accomplish the feat include LaToya Bond, who did so four times between 2004-2006, Kerensa Barr in 2002 and Amanda Lassiter twice in 1999-00.
- Cunningham has now scored 18+ points in six of her last eight games. Over the stretch, the Tiger senior is averaging 18.0 points per game while 87.5 percent from the charity stripe in the game (42-for-48).
- After having no player record five or more assists in the first nine games of the season, Mizzou has now had five do so in the last seven games, including three straight from Cunningham.
- Aldridge matched a career high with five rebounds in the game.
