Tigers’ nonconference tournament road finale scheduled from Sept. 7-8
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Beginning in late May, Mizzou Volleyball has given its fans an in-depth look at the upcoming 2018 schedule. The Tigers will open their new campaign at the James Madison Invitational from Aug. 24-25 and then head to San Juan for the Puerto Rico Invitational from Aug. 31 – Sept. 2.
Mizzou's third nonconference tournament is slated from Sept. 7-8 at the Towson Invitational in Towson, Maryland. The Tigers will be joined by Princeton, Ohio State and host Towson as they compete in three matches over two days.
Mizzou's Towson Invitational opener against Princeton will mark one of nine total contests this upcoming season versus an opponent who appeared in the NCAA Tournament last year. Princeton defeated Yale in an Ivy League playoff match a season ago to earn its seventh all-time NCAA Tournament bid. The Tigers from Princeton, New Jersey, have posted an overall and Ivy League winning record in each of the past four seasons.
Ohio State produced eight wins in the competitive Big 10 Conference a season ago, including a pair of triumphs over eventual NCAA Tournament qualifiers. The Buckeyes are set to return three of their top six point producers from 2017.
Towson is fresh off a fantastic season in the Colonial Athletic Association, finishing second in the conference with a 12-4 record in league play. The Tigers ultimately appeared in the 2017 National Invitational Volleyball Championship, as their 27 total victories tied for third all-time in single-season history.
