Tigers let 6-5 lead in sixth inning slip away
ATHENS, Ga. – Mizzou Softball (20-20, 3-10 SEC) saw its offense come alive against one of the nation's top teams Friday evening, but No. 5 Georgia's production was just a bit better as it fell 8-6 to the Bulldogs in this weekend's series opener.
The Tigers mounted two comebacks throughout the night, as they led 2-1 after two innings and 6-5 heading to the bottom half of the sixth inning. The host Bulldogs had an answer each time however, capped off by a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth.

Hear From Coach Fogue
On Friday's back and forth contest at Jack Turner Stadium…
"I'm really proud of this team, as they once again showed that they fight until the very end. Georgia is one of the hottest teams in the country and we showed that we can compete. I was very pleased with our offense as we stayed aggressive and jumped on some pitches. Callie (Martin), Rylee (Pierce) and Brooke (Wilmes) were all seeing the ball well tonight. In the circle, the stat line might not show it, but Madi (Norman) really battled all night for us. She made a couple mistakes and you have to give credit to the Georgia hitters."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Pierce, Wilmes and Martin each had big nights at the plate Friday, leading to multi-hit outings. Wilmes tallied her third three-hit performance this season, while Pierce and Martin recorded their 13th and fourth multi-hit game this year, respectively.
- Martin roped her team-leading ninth double of the season in the second inning, scoring a pair of Tiger baserunners. She followed that with another big hit in the sixth inning, launching her third home run of the season to left field.
- Mizzou roughed up two premier pitchers in its series opener, as Mary Wilson Avant and Kylie Bass entered Friday night with 1.14 and 1.65 ERAs, respectively. Avant lasted only 1.1 innings in the circle and allowed two runs, while Bass surrendered four runs on five hits over 5.2 innings of relief.
- Martin's four RBI tonight matched her single-game career-high, joining her first occasion on March 21 against SEMO.
- Hatti Moore gunned down Georgia's Cortni Emanuel on an attempted steal in the fourth inning. Emanuel, who ranks second in the Southeastern Conference with 34 stolen bases, was caught stealing for only the fourth time this year.
