Cierra Porter led Mizzou with 12 rebounds and nine points
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Women's Basketball (24-7) was eliminated from the 2018 SEC Tournament on Friday, falling to Georgia, 55-41, in its quarterfinal matchup. The Tigers held Georgia to 16.7-percent shooting from beyond the arc and 38.5-percent shooting from the field, but Mizzou scored a season-low 41 points, including just 18 in the second half. Mizzou redshirt senior Jordan Frericks led Mizzou with 10 points and added six rebounds and three assists. Junior Cierra Ported chipped in nine points and 12 rebounds and sophomore Amber Smith tallied eight points and eight rebounds.
Turning Point
Mizzou trailed by just one, 30-29, after a Porter bucket down low with 3:56 remaining in the third quarter. Then Georgia strung together a few baskets on consecutive possessions, building a nine-point advantage after an 8-0 run. Mizzou would go on to cut the deficit to as low as five in the fourth quarter but Georgia responded with a timely bucket in transition to push back in front 46-39. The Tigers scored just two points the rest of the way as the Bulldogs finished off the victory.
Top Tigers
- Senior forward Jordan Frericks (Quincy, Ill.) totaled a team-high 10 points and maintained an inside presence throughout the ballgame, corralling six rebounds. It was her 20th game in double digit scoring this season.
- Sophomore guard Amber Smith (Shreveport, La.) contributed eight points and also grabbed eight rebounds.
- Junior forward Cierra Porter (Columbia, Mo.) was dominant on the boards for Mizzou, totaling a team-high 12 rebounds. Porter has grabbed 10-plus rebounds in nine games this season.
Notes
- The contest marked just the fourth time this season that an opponent shot a higher percentage from the field than Mizzou.
- Mizzou hauled in 41 total rebounds while the Bulldogs only managed 35. The Tigers have now outrebounded opponents in 27 of 31 games this season.
- 14 of the Tigers boards were on the offensive end, giving them 14 games this season with double digit offensive rebounds.
